Which game has the best graphics. With most advanced textures, shaders, vast maps etc. Forget the game play.

CD Projekt looks like they took some notes from Cryengine when they upgraded their engine, especially the foilage rendering.

I would have to consider BF 3/4. They may not have the absolute best graphics, but as far as looking good and being scalable across a wide range of hardware, Frostbite is a great engine.

But in terms of looking best on top end hardware, yea, probably crysis 3.

Crysis3 by a good margin. And yes, Psycho is by far the most detailed, highest quality character model I've seen in any game.

Skyrim has crappy lighting and shadows, and no amount of mods will ever change that core component of the engine render. It comes off as static and cartoony, and I've tried just about everything to make it look better.

As big of a fan as I am of graphic quality, I still think anything resembling photorealism is really boring. I've seen all the examples of ray-traced engines and 3D scanned environments, and honestly, I hope gaming never goes that way. Artistic direction is king (especially combined with quality assets and rendering).

Crysis 3 for sure but that's a little too easy.

Many will disagree but Watch Dogs looks great for an open world game. It stutters, sure, but it really does look great.

Also I agree that BF4 is a contender especially if played with resolution scaling cranked up.

AC4 is also amazingly immersive. Some scenes look great. Must be played with 4x TXAA which makes the ships have no shimmering and no jaggies at all. The game looks like playing in an oil painting.

I can't believe anybody would consider Skyrim in the same league as Crysis 3. It is not rendering nearly as much. And on top of that, it has some very serious immersion breaking issues with it's ability (or lack thereof) to render distance details in a stable manner. There is just far too much pop-up built into that engine for me to consider it one of the best. Not only that but the animation and physics seriously suck compared to most modern engines. Bethesda's engine is crap and they better upgrade it before their next game comes out. If they plan on dropping something with Skyrim level animation on next-gen it's going to be an embarrassment for them.

The problem with Ghosts is you can see the polygons, its littered with low quality textures and its got a really close fog of war to reduce rendering effort. Its a classic console port that has spiffed up graphics on PC. Its not a contender.

I suspect the answer is probably Crysis 3, a boring game IMO but definitely one of the the best looking games ever made in engine. There are plenty of scenes in it that look quit drab but there are also stunning scenes that show off what the engine can do. Skyrim maybe with the right combination of mods in the right places can look very good as well, but it also doesn't run as well once you put all those mods on it.

That I have personally played . . . I would hold up Skyrim(modded), The Witcher 2, and Tomb Raider 2013.

Hell, Witcher 2 4 years later is still one of the best looking games out there. If Geralt had TressFX hair, I'd put it in the top 3.

Throw Metro Last Light somewhere there and I agree completely.
