Which film surprised you the MOST so far this year?

I went to see Pirates of the Caribean with reasonable expectations and to be honest it blew me away.

I thought it was the most unexpected great film this year.

what about you?

Matrix revolutions. I expected it to be fairly bad, but nothing quite as unimaginable as I'm told it is (no, I've not seen it).

Go see it man, it's beautifully written, and the actors did an amazing job.

Bad Santa......left me with that WTF look most of the time. I wasn't expecting a Black Comedy so I was totally blindsided.

You actually saw that? Adam sandler hasn't done a good movie in years, and to think that he could possibly do a good job on amovie that didn't claim to be a comedy? Good god!

Matrix Revolutions... I expected it to be pretty good, as I even liked Reloaded... But Revolutions made me feel completely ripped off.
Pirates of the Carribean... Heard great things, but it's incredibly average.

X-Men and X2... Watched both this week. Went in with very low expectations, but I really enjoyed both quite a lot.

It was a romantic comedy... but it wasn't a stupid comedy like he normally does. I enjoyed it.

Edit: I enjoyed it but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because it's not the kind of movie I think most people would like.

I really hated the movie when i first saw it, then after a few days i realized that i liked it alot. The music in it is ingenius IMO.

I thought Kill Bill would be good, but it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and I've seen a *bunch* of 80s movies.

I agree. I thought it was going to be a let down, but it ranks among my favorite movies of all time.

Ken Watanabe gives a memorable performance. I think he stole the show from Tom Cruise.

Considering it was a big budget movie with a very high profile leading actor, it's funny to say it was a "surprise movie".

Considering I had no expectations, I thought Pirates was very entertaining.

I was in the theater watching previews in mid May. I saw a teaser trailer for The Last Samurai. As the trailer ended, I said in a normal voice, "Great..the last thing we need is a white man trying to be a samurai." I thought it was a fluke too...

BOY WAS I WRONG.

I have never seen such a beautifully scripted film. The characters nail their roles down and Tom Cruise did an awesome job. The director of Glory has amazed me yet again. He couldn't stop at Glory.

I appeal to anyone who is even THINKING about watching The Last Samurai in the theaters, DO IT NOW. It's worth every penny. I have seen the film at least 8 times (twice in the theaters, the rest from a friend). The film never bores me. I think I might go watch it again right now...

Pirates of the Carribean was a big disappointment for me. Everyone told me how great it was so i went and saw it... and it was exactly what i expected.

I predicted the entire event sequence for the end of the movie half way through it 🙁
