Real ASCII tie bomber. A defender would be awfully difficult...

I didn't think Sienar made the TIEs. Wasn't it the other company...arggg! It'll come to me...

Hehheh, the bomber would actually look more like this:

{O-0}

because the ordnance pod is smaller than the main pod. (Though I forget if the ordnance pod is starboard or port side.)

Well, the ordanace pod is not noticable different in size from the main pod. I believe the pilots sits on the left side (right side if you are looking at the bomber from the front). They even had modified bombers used a miniture boarding craft. They would put 1-3 storm troopers in the ordanance side and cut a hole in the side of a ship for some boarding action fun

They were also vastly more maneuverable than anything the rebels had. A good pilot in one of those is an easy match for any shielded craft. The 181st proved that well enough.

It was Sienar. The other main company was Kuat Drive Yards. They made the Imperial Class Star Destroyers. I am not sure who made the victory class star destroyers. Did you know the abbreviation for Star Destroyer was STD... lol

There were many other companies at the time but Kuat and Sienar where the biggest. I believe Kuat also made the Nebulon-B Escort Frigates (the ship you see luke in when he gets his hand replace in the end of empire strikes back) and a few other capital ships like the interdictor cruiser. Seinar made mostly fighters though I believe they made the Loranar-class strike cruiser (again, I could be wrong, it's been a while)

But of course Boba Fett pretty much destroyed the Kuat drive yards. :}

Same way the ship in Star Trek (forgive me for not knowing the name, Ive hardly seen the show) makes noise. Most audience members feel weird when a ship is silent.

thats true, and ackbar had a b-wing made specially for him with two seats in it. He had a pilot for it so it was like his personal taxi... but with big guns! Wait, wasn't it the Verpines?

I don't remember that. I do remember Kuat building him a Slave 2 after slave 1 was destroyed, there was a few large firefights in the Kuat facilities but I don't remember bobba fett doing anything...

The big wings on a TIE would be poopy in atmosphere.

In space not so bad....although still a huge broadside target.

Oh, and why bother with the expense of outfitting ships with shields and having spare parts and technicians trained to repair them....when you just turn out some basic hull/engine/cannon fodder combos?

I ment the wings on the X-wing were good in the atmosphere, the ties are very sluggish which is an advantage the rebels used whenever fighting near a planet.

I am not sure I understand your last question, the empire did not bother to set aside many techs or spare parts because the ties where so often complete losses. Only when they went away from the basic TIE/in, TIE-Bomber, and TIE-interceptor to the sheilded units did they add the many techs.

The last book of the Tales of the Bounty Hunters. Kuat of Kuat was trying to use Fett and he didn't like that. Kuat actually took out most of the drive yard himself but Fett made sure he died with the yard.
