Some dude or team at Sienar fleet systems. The wanted a cheap fighter that was easy to make and fly. Those large "blinders" give the ship alot of it's power and by not putting shields or any life support (the pilots are in space suits) you make the fighter faster and more powerful without a large generator.

I bow before your superior knowledge!

<O> <=== better design!

>O< <=== or they could have copied the xwing design 😀

Not bad. Now draw us a TIE-Defender!

They need to work on spacing here 1st if you want us to do that. 😀

But of course Boba Fett pretty much destroyed the Kuat drive yards. :}

I don't remember that. I do remember Kuat building him a Slave 2 after slave 1 was destroyed, there was a few large firefights in the Kuat facilities but I don't remember bobba fett doing anything...

The last book of the Tales of the Bounty Hunters. Kuat of Kuat was trying to use Fett and he didn't like that. Kuat actually took out most of the drive yard himself but Fett made sure he died with the yard.

Actuall kaut only tool out about %20 of the yards.
Fett flew a STD that was part of the bomb chain. 🙂

The Ceylons (sp?) had THREE robotic pilots (on the original series) That always bothered me. At least the new SciFi version has it more realistic.

OK, OK not Star Wars, but I just wanted to mention it...

(was that an actual line from the movie?!)

oopss...the actual quote was:

"You're all clear kid...Now let's blow this thing and go home..."

wait a minute...I just saw the 'Correction' (and almost spit out my drink)...

In XWA online, the Defender was considered a Noob fighter by everyone. Like using a BFG in Q3. When two players wanted to have a good match it was the Tie Interceptor (almost exclusively), or for old school fun it was two Tie Fighter's in an asteroid field. Occasionally, you'd have an x-wing duel, but they usually took too long.

A little know fact is that the X-Wing will turn tighter than most of the Tie's if you cut the shield recharge to 0-33%. But the sheild factor made them a 2nd choice to the Tie.

X-wing vs. Tie Fighter & XWA were great games. It's hard to name very many realtime multiplayer games in the last decade that you could host decently on a 33-56K modem.....

God this thread brings back the geek.....Long live the Emperors Hammer!!!!!!
