it depends on whether you expect to print lots of pictures: you might have a problem with a 2 mpix camera if you do. I'm not sure if you can find a 3 mpix for 200 though.

2MP will print good 4x6's. I've had some 8x10's done at Walmart with 3MP shots and they look fine.

I'm not sure if its on your list or not, but if you search the forums, you'll see that a ton of people reccomend the Canon Powershot A40 for that much money.

Canon makes some great 2mp digicams. The A40 is a great value but if you want compact S200 or S330 but those are bit higher cost. You can get a S200 for 270 shipped at Dell. They have a 10% off all digicams.

If you can, spend another $49 and buy the Canon PowerShot A40 and here's why:

This is the BEST DAMN 2 megapixel digicam in it's class and these reviews practically speak for themselves:

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS
imaging-resource.com (with sample pictures)
dcresource.com (with sample pictures)
steves-digicams.com (with sample pictures)
dpreview.com (97 owner's ratings almost 5 out of 5 stars in every category)

CONSUMER REVIEWS
ePinions.com (100% recommended by 8 reviewers)
Amazon.com (4.8 out of 5 stars with 39 customer reviews)
CNET.com (8 out of 10 stars with 95% positive reviews)

1) Canon PowerShot A40
2) Fuji Finepix 2650 is an excellent value but it takes xD media.
3) Tie between the Toshiba vs Sony

DO NOT BUY A KODAK DIGICAM, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY A KODAK DIGICAM!!! or HP for that matter.

SCSIfreek - It took everything I had to recommend the Canon PowerShot A40, why? Because it's at FULL RETAIL price of $249 when you could buy it for $200 with FREE 64MB or 128MB CF if you wait for another OD/OM/Staples deal to come along but if you HAD to choose between all these digicams, the Canon A40 still kicks major ass.

lilFajita - Janet is so hot it isn't funny, great now I got that song running through my head in an infinite loop!

I hope I'm not hijacking here.

Can someone recommend a $300 camera? Mom gave me some cash for xmas :) I can go a bit higher than that, if needed.

I am thinking of the fuji FINEPIX 3800. The xd doesn't really scare me, as I don't own any cf/sm flash memory.

Thanks.

Without a doubt this is the best deal on rechargeable batteries.

However if you can spend a few more bucks I'd strongly suggest buying some new 1800 mAH's with a MAHA quick charger from either Thomas-Distributing.com or SunnBattery.com's eBay auctions (userid ptron1).

Always have at least double the amount of rechargeable batteries your digicam needs on hand. So while you're using one set, the other is charging. I own TWO of those Panasonic rechargeable kits (bought one from CostCo B&M for $20 after $5 MIR and the other is still brand new for $12.99 from Big Lots B&M with no MIR) ... also some Big Lots B&M stores are selling 4 packs of Panasonic 1600 mAH rechargeable batteries for the INCREDIBLE price of only $4.99 so I grabbed 2 of those packs.

Rechargeable batteries make sense environmentally and financially.

Thank you for all of your responses, so everyone agrees I should just spend the extra $50 on the Canon A40? If I don't have to spend the extra money i'd rather not but if this camera is worth it then I will, thanks :)

That's a tough decision. The Fuji Finepix 2650 is an excellent digicam for only $199 however it does take xD media rather than the Canon A40's CF (CF is so cheap, abundant and is also used in PDA's and MP3 Players did I mention that it's CHEAP?). Also the Canon A40 records video WITH sound.

If it were me, this would be a no brainer spend the extra $50 and get the Canon A40 then buy some rechargeable batteries for only $12.99.

Congrats!!!

I used to race R/C cars professionally and my Airtronics M8 radio takes 12 AA's. I always used 1600mAh NiMh batteries and I had 2 sets. That made 24. I never wanted to use those batteries for my camera because they were in my R/C tool kits, so I bought an extra 12 AA's just for my camera. Now that I don't have time to race R/C anymore, I have the 24 AA's from that. That brings the grand total to 36 AA NiMh all 1600-1800mAh ! Haha, I never run out.

Ok well I will have about $50 left over. How much will the CF/Batteries/Recharger cost? I am sure it won't be cheap. Atleast a decent sized CF.

Thanks again.
