Which CPU should i get?

yes, you can run xp home on it. but you also have to look at the sockets. your 64-bit processor is lga775 whilst the 32-bit prescott you have chosen is socket 478. this is going to affect your whole system.

So does that mean a higher socket number is better? There are some 3ghz intel processors with lower socket numbers that are more expensive than the higher numbered ones? why?

what are the EXACT specs on your motherboard?

If this turns into one of your other asinine threads you should JUST BUY A DELL and quit trolling.

You should know what a socket is before you even think about installing a CPU. A socket is the number of pins on the back of the CPU, if your motherboard doesn't have the same number of pins, it simply will not work. Why do you want an intel?

EDIT: didn't see your latest post. WHY IN THE WOLRD ARE YOU BUYING THE WORST PROCESSOR BRAND IN THE MARKET!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

Well I'm not going to use my pc for gaming, mostly multitasking, which Intel is better at

INTEL SUCKS AT MULTITASKING!!!!!! Havn't you learned that?

EDIT: Buy this CPU. It's dual core, and henceforth it is one of the fastest processors for multitasking out there.

I dont know which mobo to get.

Also, which one is better? they only differ by 2 or 3 dollars:

1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116201

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116197

In all seriousness you really need to ask yourself if you are up to building/troubleshooting your home-built computer. Are you upgrading a laptop as well as building a desktop?

There are a lot of questions you need to answer before building (besides competence) most importantly; budget, type of use, amd vs. intel, etc. Personally I think from your questions you should buy a Dell.

Do whatever you want. I don't care.

I'd go A64 for gaming or general windows usage.

Crescent13, you act like Intel is the worst decision someone could possibly make. It's not that big of a deal 😛

I don't have that much money to spend... I'm looking at AMD 3200+, 3500+, or 3700+ which is sufficient for me.... can you help me pick one of those?

ALso, what does 3200+ mean? Does that mean it's as fast as a 3.2ghz intel?

What's your mb+proc+ram budget?

I can't go over $1000 and 1gb is probably enough for me, but i'll take 2gb if the total doesnt exceed $1000.

whoa... $1000 for just these three parts or the whole computer?

Overclocking isn't really that hard, and you will get MUCH more for your money. I say get the highest you can with your money, if you can afford a 3700+, then get one. link

Ok, that makes more sense.

Do you need a monitor included in that? Windows? Mouse/Keyboard/speakers?
