What's your mb+proc+ram budget?

I can't go over $1000 and 1gb is probably enough for me, but i'll take 2gb if the total doesnt exceed $1000.

whoa... $1000 for just these three parts or the whole computer?

I can't spend over $1000 for the entire computer

Ok, that makes more sense.

Do you need a monitor included in that? Windows? Mouse/Keyboard/speakers?

No monitor needed, no mouse, no keyboard, no speakers... i will use all my current dell accessories with it... but do i need to buy a sound card?

Wow, that's a tight budjet.

So you need

Case
Powersupply
Harddrive <-- how much space do you need?
Videocard <-- what did you say about gaming? none? a little?
Optical drive
CPU
mb
ram

EDIT: soundcard will not be needed

Either get a Venice, or a San Deigo. Clawhammer and Winchester processors are old and outdated.

160 gb HD will be enough for me. Also, i think a 6600gt video card is good for me, since i watch DVD's and do video editing

Ok, why don't we do ram/CPU last and we'll see how much you have left to work with...

Well I had a Western Digital IDE HD and it crashed after 3 years of usage, so I think SATA will be better and isn't SATA thinner and newer technology?

So...

I went through newegg and looked at some prices

benq 1640 dvd
antec sonata II
Seagate 160gig sata
evga 6600gt pci-e

That's $397 + shipping for me right now.

Sure, buy slower stuff 😉

3000+ Venice E3 + MSI Neo4-F + Corsair ValueRAM would do it for $700 . . .

No, it is faster . . . not in terms of frequencies but in terms of performance . . .

I should probably correct my statement:

3000+ is much faster for gaming and memory-depedent apps
P4 3.0 is faster for encoding and general multimedia apps . . .

So is the AMD 3500+ faster than the intel 3 ghz at encoding and general multimedia apps?
