Every time a bank gives a loan to some philosophy major I wanna commit homicide.
Tell her to change her major to Medicine or Engineering, otherwise she will never get a job.

What a complete lack of information by the OP. Is this a full ride scholarship or partial? What is her major, what does she want to do?
Did she even ask for your opinion? Doesn't sound like you know what you are talking about...
Are you an engineer? Sounds like it... they're typically of the "every other job but mine sucks so you're all stupid for doing it" variety. Get the fuck over it.
And I say that as an engineer. There's too fucking many of them, especially mechanical ones. They're going the way of the lawyer because everybody thinks they get paid boatloads just by having the degree, and they think they'll just fall into jobs. Soon enough there's going to be so many that they'll have to make infomercials to get any work.
There are not enough semiconductor engineers. RF circuit designers are in short supply. There's something about FB stealing talent from Google. Europe and Asia generally don't have enough engineers to fill their job openings.
Saw this yesterday: http://www.kiplinger.com/slideshow/10-best-college-majors-for-your-career/1.html
It's a Top 10 List for the best college majors for a lucrative career (not all actually require college). Three of the career fields are medical- or pharm-related. Three are engineering (EE, ChemE, transportation sci and tech which includes engineering and aero).
So, it sounds like MechE is a bad choice. I'm guessing that CivE and NukE are along the same lines.
