My impressions for East Coast and West Coast are skewed by just visiting California, and living in NYC...

Seriously, when I went to California earlier this year, my whole sense of the West Coast is that of a Little Mexico or something (mostly because there were so many of them)...so I gotta say East Coast.

It just didn't look modern, and despite being in one of the wealthiest parts of Hollywood, it seemed cheap, like they were trying too hard to impress.

Even the ghetto areas of New York seem more modern and wealthier than there. West Coast reeks of cheap.
LOL, I had the same impression of NYC when I visited there.
Having only been to NY and Boston I guess it's hard for me to compare to the West Coast. I do like the Boston area a hell of a lot more than New York. Of course CA and the West Coast is as diverse as the East Coast so it's hard to get any sense of what it's like, especially when you go to a sh!t hole like LA. San Diego, North of LA, the Central Coast, the Bay Area, NorCal, Oregon and Washington all are better by a large margin than LA.

I am heading to Boston very soon! I hear it is nice up there, but that (as far as city sizes count) it is kind of small.

My dream is to go to a Boston-Yankees game up there and watch the Yanks crush them at home. :):):)

Wealthy parts of Hollywood? Dude, Hollywood is a sh!thole. So, you were here for what, a whole week and feel qualified to make that statement? That's super weak....:thumbsdown:

Ummm, hollywood has some very wealthy parts

Yeah, but you have to go through the crappy parts that are filled with looneys to get to the wealthy parts.

Basing your opinion of the entire West Coast on Hollywood is like basing your opinion of Chinese Cuisine on Panda Express...or Italian Cuisine on the Spaghetti Factory.

Are we also including West Hollywood and North Hollywood in this discussion too?

I moved from Virginia to California in August. I like both coasts, but the weather is so much better and the crime so much lower. I also like that I get to watch the sports at night instead of having games start at 10:30PM EST.

If you want to see nice parts of southern California visit Newport Beach and the coastal area south around crystal cove state park.

There are some nice areas there. I worked there for years and am very familiar with the area. I much prefer Orange County, San Diego Coastal, the South Bay area of Los Angeles, and the Palos Verdes pennisula to the Hollywood/Valley area. I guess Beverly Hills/Brentwood would be nice areas to live but that about it for the west side IMO. There are some nice areas of Pasadena but I worked there for a while too, it's too smoggy and too hot during the summer...as is the Valley.

The east coast has the Outer Banks beachs which beat anything on the west coast for swimming.

West coast has cool sealife within the tidal zone if one doesn't mind freezing one's patooties off to wade out to it.

The east coast has cool swamps with cypress trees and alligators.

The west coast has rocky crags and blow holes.

Both have way, way too many people.

The Gulf coast has petrochemicals.

Overall, I have to vote for the east coast.

We were gonna move to West Hollywood until we went out to visit it. Way to much traffic and to congested. It is the total opposite here in Newport Beach. My 4 mile commute takes about 10 minutes.

West coast is soooo much nicer... You could drive to the beach one day, then drive to the mountains and go skiing the next day. Of course, if you're like the majority of Californians, you have so little left over after making your mortgage payment that you don't get to do either. :p

Hard to say as both coasts are so different along them.

I like west palm beach and palm beach's coast front's driving along A1A. Pacific Coast Highway is a nicer drive.

Cali gets waves in the summer, Florida in the winter.

For actually swimming in? The West coast, simply because of Hawaii. For meeting a bunch of stuck up pricks? The West coast again, simply because of California.

Hawaii is located in the west and contains coasts. Close enough. :)

You're a typical Texas asshole.

lol, I've lived at both for quite a while and neither is exactly perfect. It's just that every time you click on some truck/SUV/gun/etc related thread you can expect the thread basher to live in San Diego. Not to mention that their constant worship of their bland weather is annoying as well.

I've lived in both as well. My daughter was born in Texas. But I prefer California snobs ;)

It doesn't? LOL yeah right, where'd you get that from? They have misquitos big time on the West Coast. In fact they were much more of a bother when I was living in Central CA and the Bay Area than they are here in Boston.
