The west seems to offer a little more in the way of environmental diversity if you want it. You've got better mountains, better forests, and some desert if that's your thing. The temp ranges anywhere from cool and damp to hot and arid with just about anything in between.

The east coast offers some diversity in climate and geography, but nothing like the west plus it's prone to hurricanes.

The gulf coast is just muggy and icky year round and is *REALLY* prone to hurricanes.

I've lived in the midwest my whole life so I'm about as unbiased as you can get :p

Having lived on the East Coast and the West Coast I much prefer the West. The climate is beautiful here, you can go surfing and spend the day at the beach one day and go skiing in the mountains the next. There's just so much to do here year round. I love it.

Edit-I'm sitting here on the patio at my Mother-In-Law's house in Palm Springs in shorts and a t-shirt. It's 73 degrees here right now.

My impressions for East Coast and West Coast are skewed by just visiting California, and living in NYC...

Seriously, when I went to California earlier this year, my whole sense of the West Coast is that of a Little Mexico or something (mostly because there were so many of them)...so I gotta say East Coast.

It just didn't look modern, and despite being in one of the wealthiest parts of Hollywood, it seemed cheap, like they were trying too hard to impress.

Even the ghetto areas of New York seem more modern and wealthier than there. West Coast reeks of cheap.

Wealthy parts of Hollywood? Dude, Hollywood is a sh!thole. So, you were here for what, a whole week and feel qualified to make that statement? That's super weak....:thumbsdown:

LOL, I had the same impression of NYC when I visited there.
Having only been to NY and Boston I guess it's hard for me to compare to the West Coast. I do like the Boston area a hell of a lot more than New York. Of course CA and the West Coast is as diverse as the East Coast so it's hard to get any sense of what it's like, especially when you go to a sh!t hole like LA. San Diego, North of LA, the Central Coast, the Bay Area, NorCal, Oregon and Washington all are better by a large margin than LA.

I guess if you've only seen Hollywood then I can see how you might say this.

Yeah, I figured that some might take offense, hence my first sentence. :)

I am heading to Boston very soon! I hear it is nice up there, but that (as far as city sizes count) it is kind of small.

My dream is to go to a Boston-Yankees game up there and watch the Yanks crush them at home. :):):)

You can't beat California. It's got mountains for skiing, deserts, LA type weather, forests, lots of hot people, etc...

Yeah just be sure you are loud enough to draw attention to yourself:evil:

BTW, it being smaller is the reason I liike it over NYC. Whe I went to NYC I was toally overwhelmed. I had a great time though:thumbsup:

Do we really need to get into all the wealthy areas of SoCal? Because there are PLENTY of them.

Having lived near the Gulf Coast (Texas) and visited the west coast multiple times and now leave near the east coast (Pennsylvania), I would say the West Coast is far, far better than the East Coast. In fact I would go so far to say that the only people who would think the East Coast is superior are people have never even visited the West or Gulf Coasts.

I would put the Gulf Coast as a close second. The Gulf Coast is hit or miss, but you have some pretty nice and fun places.

Simply put, for the most part, the East Coast is kinda ass. Yes of course there are gems (NYC, DC, Boston), but if you take it into the entirely it isn't as "good" (all things relative) as the west coast.
