Which car would you prefer ? IS350/G37/TSX/3 Series

Me and a couple of buddies have been talking about cars lately which we might look into getting in the next year or so. I personally am about the IS250/350, Great car, good looks, quality and refinement, Made in Japan and so on. The one thing that catches my eye is the unique speedometer. I think the G37 has a fairly simple one, as does the 3 series. The TSX and 3 in my opinion aren't worth it, especially the TSX being so overpriced.

What are your thoughts ? I currently drive a 2002 Maxima SE.

I went from a 2002 Maxima SE (6 speed) to a G37.

My first choice was a 335 but since we buy and keep cars for about 10 years, the BMW could have been troublesome. BMW also kills you when trying to add items that should be standard in a $45K car.

The TSX and IS350 were too small and the TL too ugly.

I would not buy a car based on the dash. I wanted a sedan, manual, RWD/AWD, record of reliability, and fun to drive.

Def take the g37. I think the tsx's are great but I agree with them being a little too small. You can get the 4 cylinder for 27k OTD, but I am assuming you can get the G37 for 30-32 with a strong v-6.

Whatever you do stay away from the IS. Those are garbage. Way too small think honda civic with leather. Not very powerful. And offset tires(dont last long and expensive). My girlfriend has one and the cost of owenership is ridiculous. Good luck holding more than 2 adults in that car. Anytime we would take out another couple, we always take my TL because people can barely fit in her back seat.

Good luck with the purchase.

IS has been out to long with to few updates, a new model is probably fairly close. I'd rock a 335d, 3-series diesel, over all the others. Although by next year there will be a new 3-series, so that may change.

Worth considering the c-series as well.

G37. The 3 series is the only other consideration, but reliability alone would be enough to steer me away from those.

@ exdeath - G37 compares nicely against 335i. G37 IPL will probably line up with the 335is. The M3 is obviously entirely different, but it's nothing like the rest of the list above.

In NYC, it's always like this:

IS350 - Preppy White Guy
G37 - Hispanic Livery Cab Driver
TSX - Working class Black Guy
3 anything - Asian

G37 definitely offers best bang for buck. TSX too slow. The other two are nice, 3 series has highest look-at-me factor, obviously.

100% agreed.

Ok, that is true....not really the main focus. Reliability is the biggest concern, and obv. cost of ownership. I have a maxima, and have driven G35s. They feel the same when driven. I am unsure about the G37...but it is indeed a nice car. It would probably come down to IS or G for me..335 = no. TSX = forget about it

You say you've driven G35's, but which generation, V35 or V36? If it was the V36, the G37 is obviously very similar. The transmission is smoother (+2 gears), the motor has a little more power, and the sound was improved. I think they also tweaked some parts of the interior, i.e. the color of gauges changed IIRC. Pretty minor things, it's mostly the transmission and engine.

If you've been driving the V35... the 37 has better headlights, better underbody coating, and a significantly improved interior - i.e. the center control screen. That's in addition to the engine, which is significantly improved (3.7 versus the 3.5DE; the V36 has the 3.5HR), and the transmission.

As for the IS, I would not compare the IS250 to the G37, it's such a difference in power; in fact, I wouldn't even consider an IS250, it just doesn't have enough power to interest me. I don't have anything for the IS350, I didn't even consider that in my car search.
