Honestly, if you are looking for something RWD & sporty with possibly a ragtop option, just go lease a Solstice/Sky.

The residuals on those should be very favorable and your monthly payments will reasonable on it. You won't have to worry about lucrative repair/maintenance costs like you would with the Porches.

And it's a better looking car than the newer MR2's.

But ultimately, I just can not imagine driving any of those daily. Afer a few months the age, compromises, repair costs and lack of function of them will quickly show and you'll just be looking for another car again.

For a single guy, they aren't bad as daily drivers. I drove a 924S as my daily driver for about 18 months and never had an issue with the practicality of it. I did, however, dump about $4,000 into maintenance and repairs (to fix some bone-headed things that the previous owner did) during that time. That's the only reason I would not recommend the Porsches. They will be expensive. Probably $200-300/month in maintenance alone.

From a practicality standpoint though, if he's single there's no real need to have anything larger.

your 20, and paying 60% of your insurance.

quotes from progessive are
968: 1300
MR2: 1100

both everything included, top of the line every thing they offer quotes.

thats lump sum payment.

Oops, you replied before I could edit...What about maintenance?

One of my first cars was the baby brother of the Porsches you mention--the 924. Boy, did that thing eat parts...

Heck, I'll get straight to the point: just get a Miata or an S2000. A Miata because they can be had for cheap. An S2000 because you're thinking of spending S2000 money on an MR Spyder...

Really...when I owned mine, I knew drivers up to 6'5" who fit happily into theirs...

Anyway, of the choices you have, I'd say the MR S for the sensible cost of ownership...Though it's hard to use the word sensible when you'd be hard-pressed to fit two 24-packs in that car ;)

my knees drill the steering wheel on the 06. and i can fit a golf bag behind the seat, and a bookbag up front, thats plenty right now.

plus it gets pretty damn good MPG.

Listen to ZV, he is pretty much dead on. I currently have a 944, it was a ressonably low mileage car and I've put $3K into it each year for the 2 years I've owned it. Right now, I've got a leaking PS rack for no reason and an issue with the left rear wheel bearing. Maintenance is key on these cars, you can not just ignore it. I do mu own wrenching, so at leats it is affordable, if it wasn't for that, I'd have something much newer parked in its place (350Z maybe? :))

Gotta love how Porsche people talk about how their cars just require lots of maintenance. If any other kind of car fell apart as much as their Porsches', they'd call it a piece of junk. "Oh, its not falling apart, its just the previous owner didn't follow the maintenance schedule PERFECTLY"....yeah, right.

MR2 would be a far better daily driver. But a 968 has its obvious virtues along with being the car amongst the three that will depreciate the least. I definitely wouldn't get the S2. You're paying a hefty premium for a trim line that only porsche fans care about.

My MR2 has a trunk.. :p

Never had much of a chance to look at a new one, though..I dunno if they have one or not.

The Spyders just have the front trunk shared with the spare tire and a glove box sized compartment behind the seats. Almost 0 cargo area.
