I bought a cheap $80 quad with a camera to get my feet wet in drones and plan on buying this one latter on.

Much cheaper OP. I seen this one dodge a hawk so that's how I found out about it, looked it up and was surprised by the price. But you watch, now they will raise the price like they did with a winter parka I had bookmarked. Had to buy my jacket on ebay.
You can only get these if you use them responsible like we saw in this episode of south park:

That or to hunt down amazon drones for free loot.

DId you made a decision yet.... i am in the market for them as well....
My buddy has a dji phantom 2 vers 1 with a h3-2d gimbal for 600 not sure if its a good deal trying to read up more about them
How do hexa or octocopters compare in quality to the roflcopter?A quadcopter is not a good platform for photography. You should be looking at hexacopters or octocopters.
My wife's uncle has a DJI Phantom II....looks just like the one you pictured.
He's been pretty happy with it. He's a land surveyor and bought it for work, but has done flyovers at the local high school football field for practice and is pretty good with it. Last weekend, he took a video of the family for Thanksgiving and had it hovering almost perfectly still in the front yard of his house. It was extremely stable and the picture going to his iPhone was pretty clear.
Not yet. Right now i am leaning towards the iris+ as it can fly autonomously following your smartphone gps location (and fix its gimbal on you too). Reviews are scarce however as it was released not too long ago.
The DJI is a proven platform that is strong as well, albeit without the ability to autonomously follow you.
The parrot just came out and looks promising too. It does not need a gimbal to adjust fov, and seems to me like one less part to break. It supposedly also takes crashes extremely well as opposed to the others. Unfortunately it looks to have the poorest battery life.
Its a lot of money for a toy. Gonna take my time...
I was gonna start a new thread but saw this one..I'm looking at the DJI Phantom 4 it's on sale atm before they launch their new model at the end of the month , anyone have one or something similar?
Thanks, i was just talking to my brother and he's got a friend that managed to lose his on their first flight, said that it somehow lost gps signal and it flew off never to be seen again....i was looking at the Mavic as well as it's a bit smaller but i haven't seen it available in any stores around here.

The DJIs are pretty well known for photography and since they're so popular they might be a good route to go to due to parts etc. Can't speak for the others but the bebop is comparable to the Phantom I believe, but think the camera is fixed. BTW all your links are dead.
I have a tiny drone I bought just to mess with but the camera is kinda crap and it loses range easily.

I eventually want to get a phantom or similar drone or look at building my own. What sucks is the government keeps regulating more and more so I feel they're just going to be illegal at some point. Pisses me off how they jump on anything new and want to regulate it. Imagine if they were so apeshit on regulating everything back when cars and planes first came out. We'd be walking everywhere.
Being in a smaller city I feel I could probably get more away with stuff though, I imagine it's up to local police to enforce and I doubt the cops here care too much about drones as long as you're not doing something stupid. Probably a bad idea to use it over the highway etc but high up in a residential area or a park is probably fine. Check ADS-B and MLAT for nearby planes first then go at it.
That's exactly what happened i guess....Hmm I missed the remote control airplane part... Interesting.
I think this is someone of authority who saw one too many quadcopter incidents. ex: like 3, and just wanted to lay the hammer on the hobby. And by incident, it was probably very minor stuff that got blown out of proportion.
