which aerial photography quadcopter should i buy?

I bought a cheap $80 quad with a camera to get my feet wet in drones and plan on buying this one latter on.

Much cheaper OP. I seen this one dodge a hawk so that's how I found out about it, looked it up and was surprised by the price. But you watch, now they will raise the price like they did with a winter parka I had bookmarked. Had to buy my jacket on ebay.

Yeah i bought a hubsan x4. I think i am proficient in flying now and want to step up to a better one

My wife's uncle has a DJI Phantom II....looks just like the one you pictured.

He's been pretty happy with it. He's a land surveyor and bought it for work, but has done flyovers at the local high school football field for practice and is pretty good with it. Last weekend, he took a video of the family for Thanksgiving and had it hovering almost perfectly still in the front yard of his house. It was extremely stable and the picture going to his iPhone was pretty clear.

hulk:

DId you made a decision yet.... i am in the market for them as well....

My buddy has a dji phantom 2 vers 1 with a h3-2d gimbal for 600 not sure if its a good deal trying to read up more about them

Not yet. Right now i am leaning towards the iris+ as it can fly autonomously following your smartphone gps location (and fix its gimbal on you too). Reviews are scarce however as it was released not too long ago.

The DJI is a proven platform that is strong as well, albeit without the ability to autonomously follow you.

The parrot just came out and looks promising too. It does not need a gimbal to adjust fov, and seems to me like one less part to break. It supposedly also takes crashes extremely well as opposed to the others. Unfortunately it looks to have the poorest battery life.

Its a lot of money for a toy. Gonna take my time...

A quadcopter is not a good platform for photography. You should be looking at hexacopters or octocopters.

The one everyone else has so you have easy access to parts, technical support, general questions, etc.

Just remember presently, the FAA is still saying commercial use to be illegal and subject to fines.

This could change though. Personally I have a problems with unregulated commercial drone flying. Our RC Sailplane flying club got kicked off a state park field that we had an agreement with the county. We flew for more the 20 years until some drone company was flying a drone of theirs low over the state picnic area that is a no fly zone. Well someone complained and all RC flying was banned.

Well the guy just knocked the price down to $450... problem is when you buy something used.. you are always taking a chance......

DJI is a proven platform so I think i am going to take the jump or leap of faith LOL

I was gonna start a new thread but saw this one..I'm looking at the DJI Phantom 4 it's on sale atm before they launch their new model at the end of the month , anyone have one or something similar?

Wow mega necro!

I would go with a DJI. Best turnkey system on the market imo.

DJI all the way!
i still have my phantom 3 working great. u can get great deals on a community forum here http://www.phantompilots.com/
i highly recommend getting insurance such as Neary Aerial too. $200 for 2 years for worry free flying. they repaired my drone n paid for shipping.

Absolutely, the Phantom 4 is awesome and you probably don't need the Pro version. I'd advise getting one of the bundles with extra batteries and stuff because it's usually cheaper than buying them separately. You are DEFINITELY going to want extra batteries at the very least.

The DJIs are pretty well known for photography and since they're so popular they might be a good route to go to due to parts etc. Can't speak for the others but the bebop is comparable to the Phantom I believe, but think the camera is fixed. BTW all your links are dead.

I have a tiny drone I bought just to mess with but the camera is kinda crap and it loses range easily.

I eventually want to get a phantom or similar drone or look at building my own. What sucks is the government keeps regulating more and more so I feel they're just going to be illegal at some point. Pisses me off how they jump on anything new and want to regulate it. Imagine if they were so apeshit on regulating everything back when cars and planes first came out. We'd be walking everywhere.

Being in a smaller city I feel I could probably get more away with stuff though, I imagine it's up to local police to enforce and I doubt the cops here care too much about drones as long as you're not doing something stupid. Probably a bad idea to use it over the highway etc but high up in a residential area or a park is probably fine. Check ADS-B and MLAT for nearby planes first then go at it.

Hmm seems some dumb ass in charge has made it basically illegal to fly a drone in most of Canada, i mean i get some of the rules and regulations, they make sense, but what has been written right now is so misleading and confusing

Do not fly your drone:
  • higher than 90 m above the ground (100 feet less than other countries but whatever)
  • closer than 75 m from buildings, vehicles, vessels, animals, people/crowds (not even my own buildings or around my boat? cant fly on a field if there are cows etc?) (people/crowds i get)
  • closer than nine km from the centre of an aerodrome (any airport, heliport, seaplane base or anywhere that aircraft take-off and land) (no where with a hospital because of heliports, no lakes/rivers because seaplanes could be using them?
  • within controlled or restricted airspace (no issue)
  • within nine km of a forest fire (?)
  • where it could interfere with police or first responders
  • at night or in clouds
  • if you can’t keep it in sight at all times
  • if you are not within 500 m of your drone
  • if your name, address, and telephone number are not clearly marked on your drone.

Remote control airplanes are exempt from these laws for some reason though....

Hmm I missed the remote control airplane part... Interesting.

I think this is someone of authority who saw one too many quadcopter incidents. ex: like 3, and just wanted to lay the hammer on the hobby. And by incident, it was probably very minor stuff that got blown out of proportion.

That's exactly what happened i guess....
