I think I was watching it live in a SocSci class in high school.

What was the last thing to go through the astronaut's minds as the Callenger exploded?

Their knees.

our grandchildren would ask us where we were during 9/11

I was at my second job. I think someone posted it on a message board and our office manager turned on the TV.

I was in a marketing planning session in a hotel on Vancouver Island when the regional VP stuck his head in our room and told us to turn on the TV.

I was in college in the caferteria having lunch. They decided to show the launch there.

They got more than they bargained for.

Was watching in the classroom in 8th grade, was a big deal that everyone watched cause one of our teachers at that school was training as a backup to McAllife. Nancy Wenger from VanDevander Jr, HS

I had just started high school (9th grade) and I recall they announced it over the PA system.

Was ill that day and was home.from work. Got up about 20 minutes before the explosion. 🙁

No one at the moment on the ground really thought it exploded at first, but a minute later their faces grew more ashen as they acknowledged the tragedy.

It's much like watching 9/11 when the second plane hit.

Today we have wall-to-wall coverage, but back then it was amazing that the networks covered a major event all the time. Remember Reagan's assassination's attempt as the first round-the-clock reporting (CNN was just coming into their element).

I was in Mr. Carter's Senior Social Studies class, Philomath High School (Oregon). We were watching it on tv live. I was 16 years old.

On January 28, 1986 America was shocked by the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger, and the death of its seven crew members.

When was that? 87?
Lets see that would be Mrs Ericksons 2nd/3rd grade combination class.
Oh CRAP!
We were watching that on TV!
I must've blocked out the memory or something! 😕

I was in 3rd grade...in reading class and one of the other teachers came in and whispered it in my teachers ear.

Was watching the launch live on TV with three other classes (I was in 3rd or 4th grade). All of the sudden this huge explosion! All of us kids thought it was cool, then all of the teachers started crying, and we couldn't understand why. We got to go home early.

What did Christa Mccullough say to her husband before she left for the mission?

You feed the kids, I'll feed the fish.

I was a freshman in high school. At the time the class I was in was taking a test. One of the students had headphones on, and interrupted the class saying the shuttle just exploded. The teacher flunked him on the test and sent him to his dean.

Working in our warehouse/office. The guys next door came over and said, "the Challenfer just blew up!" Ran outside and saw all the traces across the sky. The solid rocket boosters were still going full-on. Outside was Oviedo, FL.
