Austrailia. Do Port Douglas, just outside Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef is yours to plunder!

Bermuda.

You live in Raleigh, so you can get a cruise from Virgina and stay on the boat (no hotel costs).
Plus the turquoise water is amazing.

Marlin,

What are you looking for? Sit on the beach for a week? Exploring history? Outdoorsy stuff? You choice should fit your lifestyle. Going to Hawaii just to sit on a beach is a waste, IMHO. You can get that in the Caribbean for next to nothing if you time it right.

We prefer Hawaii to the Caribbean, but I enjoy both. Not all of Hawaii is busy, it depends on what island you visit.

Me I am more a exploer myself. Trinh, my girl, I think likes things more slow. Heck if I park the corvette to far from the store she might want a piggy back ride to keep from walking. :p

So I guess a little of both, but worth the money. As I said before I grew up at the beach so sand is sand to me. I want soemthing in the background to check out and remember. Juts trying to see where people booked their trips and also soem background. Every place is going to list their good spots but how much it marketing vs truth is where the line splits.

Thanks

A cruise might be for you. It's a very good mix of vegatating while consuming large amounts of alcohol and seeing the sites of different islands. You won't have to spend all your time onboard, but you will stillhave those sea days to relax. If you look up homeopathic remedies for seasickness you should be ok.

I was thinking of posting a similar thread, but my choices were going to be Hawaii or Greece. I had always envisioned Hawaii as my honeymoon spot, but now I'm thinking I'd want somewhere with more to do history-wise instead of just lazing around.

There is a lot of history in Hawaii. We've been 3 times now with our 4th already planned and I still haven't seen everything I want to. The average tourist doesn't want to/is too lazy to go see it though.

Take a cruise. It's cheaper and you get to see lots of different beaches all over the caribbean.

i do agree a cruise is a wonderful thing!
Especially if you spring for a mini suite or a regular suite, it is so amazingly romantic!
Having breakfast on your verandah every morning watching a new port come in to view, strolling the promanade deck before dinner, holding hands...
dancing to the trio in a lounge after dinner. Being waited on hand and foot by amazing crew!

It really is a wonderful experience.
and there are so many things you can do that could make it extra special and romantic!
PM me if you wanna know! ;)

my only problem is now that when I get married and go on my honey moon, I'm going to have to find something that tops Aruba :(

For our next trip, I've been looking at some of the all-inclusives in the Dominican Republic. Completely different environment than Aruba.

I'm hoping to go to Bora Bora or Tahiti ... but I'll really have to save for that one :)

well, no one has mentioned Mayan Riviera yet, so I'm going to.

Wy wife and I stayed at the Bahia Principe Akumal (spelling?) on the Mayan Coastline. Great resort imho.

It was a 2-hour drive south from Cancun. Cancun was full of life and very interesting, but we were glad to be removed from the hustle / bustle. There are dozens of GREAT resorts on this coast. The beaches are great too.

We did a couple tours...
- "Adventure" tour: Mayan ruins of Coba / Pac-chen, visit to real Mayan village (they cook lunch for you), hiking, biking, canoeing, repel into a "cenote" (underground cave full of water), zip-line across a pond full of crocodiles 100ft above the water, lots of exploring. (this took an entire day)
- Day trip to town of Playa del Carmen (shopping, restaurants, etc).

and of course, big shocker... at least one more tour that I can't recall.

there was a ton of stuff to do. if we go back we'll be visiting Cozumel as well to try out snorkling. i thought this destination was fantastic. we didn't have the funds to go to a more exotic location. Aruba & Tora Bora were too expensive for us.
