I am trying to see if anybody has bought wood from Lumber 84, stock Building supply, or any other place like.

Right now the major ones near me in Cary NC are...

Lowes
HomeDepot
Lumber 84
Stock Building supply

Is one of them cheaper then the other and quality?

I have been to lowes and HD so I have a idea but just cheacking to see if anybody else has any exp. with this?

try the other two

Yea I hear quality is better but this is for a shed so price is my first concern. So if equal then I will get quality but if the price difference is large enough then I go with price.

I have helped two friends put major additions onto their houses.

Both used 84 vs a Home Depot, Lowes and a local lumber store.

I have a picky wife and I don;t think the HOA would ok that :p

It will be a 2 story with maybe a 10x10 size. Trying to keep the permit easy. So no wires or water lines.

I remember from the presdential debates that W sells wood, maybe you can call the White House and ask for some wood?

Might as well get a pre built shed if you have to ask about lumber price, because pre built is cheaper.

Prices at lumber yards are very consistent with each others, because tools/nails and other supplies is where they make money.

My dad recently bought a whole truckload of wood (nearly 6k pounds :Q) to put up a new deck at our house. When we dug into the pile before we started, we found a couple pieces that were all split up, and a couple more that were warped to the point of being useless. The guys at 84 were nice enough not only to replace it, but deliver it like they had the initial load, and pick up the bad stuff.

Ahhh no its not. If I used the same stuff they do I am not paying labor or their markup for parts.

The shed my wife wants and what I will build wqould cost around $5000 or more. I can do it for about half and upgrade some parts.

Oh, forgot something - the fact that you've got no wood sounds like a personal problem to me ;) Might want to talk to a doctor, rather than the guys on here.

ahhh... thanks you just proved my point. Most of those are just the wood pre cut. And even then its there choice of wood and that does not include the ground setup, paint, insulation (cheap r13), etc..

Most of those single story basic ones cost the same as the planned 2 story one I have in mind and that is with the prices i have gotten from HD and lowes.

Note: HD and Lowes 10% off coupons can be had on ebay for a couple bucks including shipping.

Around here we just lost our 84 Lumber location, but from experience HD tends to have better lumber, but Lowes has cheaper prices. I would buy 2X4s and such from whoever is cheaper, but really start to care about quality when dealing with finishing boards or shelving...

Hey, speaking of home improvement stores, what ever happened to Builder's Square?
