Not even New Balance 4E fit my right foot. I did have success with Asics 4E by going up a size.

Just suck it up and order through zappos.com. It's an awesome company.

They seem to be absolutely everywhere where I live. Most shoe stores seem to carry New Balance shoes. If you need me to get some for you just PM me.

That being said my dad has wide-ass hobbit feet too and he tends to go for Red-Wing shoes, they aren't athletic shoes mind you, but they are one of the few types of shoes that fit him:

Once I realized that New Balance actually publicized what frame/last they use for their product lines, that's all I've bought for the last 10 years.

I just go to their store site and start sorting. Last -> Size -> Width, $$$

I prefer their SL-2 last. MUCH wider in the toes...more room for my wedge-shaped flintstone feet.

New Balance are the only running shoes I wear. Had no idea they were difficult to find anywhere, they are everywhere here. :hmm:

i wear 13, probably 3E (though 4E's are fine).

i buy sketchers or new balance from outlet-type stores. surely there are some around you (the kind of store where all the shoes are out front and typically heavily discounted from retail).

There may be but I'm unaware of them. I don't get around as much as I used to, and to a large extent because of my feet, or to be more specific my foot (I had surgery on my left foot a few years ago and it's just not the same as it used to be). I still have one good foot so I know how a foot is supposed to feel.

Well, I got a $10 off coupon (minimum $20 purchase) for Kohl's in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago (Oakland Tribune) and I went over there yesterday (Alameda), maybe my first time in a Kohl's. Based on the recommendations in this thread I figured I could maybe find some New Balance 4E there. My experience with large sporting goods stores is that they usually don't have the 4Es. Kohl's had plenty of them. Seemed like they had some in all the New Balance styles they had. They also had them in Nike and Avia, but I found a couple pair of New Balance I liked, and bought them:

MX608V2W (White, basically all leather upper) for $50
CMX381Z (Black, all leather upper) for $40

Seems like better deals than I was finding online by quite a margin. They gave me a coupon when I checked out that entitles me to another $10 discount starting the next day (today) until May15. I have a mind to go back and get another pair of those New Balance black shoes. I can wear those anywhere and I don't think they will show the wear like white shoes, plus the price is right. I'm just wondering whether they'll have my size. I might have bought the only 4E. I figure they might track stuff like that digitally and replenish as needed, so I'll give it a few days before going over there.

here is the perfect place for you, i wear size 12 4E shoes and never have a problem getting them here. plus they are cheap http://www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com/cat_mens_shoes.htm
That does look very good. I went to a site linked here but couldn't find much in 4E New Balance but the site linked here has a ton and the prices are reasonable!

I don't think they're hard to find but in my experience often hard to find in 4E. Usually I could find almost none in that size at the big box sporting goods stores around here, or if I could find them they were expensive.

I have extra wide feet and I hate to buy shoes. In fact, I have not bought a pair of shoes in 2-3 years. I can walk into a shoe store and find nothing that feels good on my feet. One time I had a job that required steel toe shoes and I couldn't find any that felt OK. I settled for non-steel toed.

However, I have found that New Balance 11 4E always fit me. Therefore, that's pretty much all I will buy. I used to go to a local sporting goods store, but they were pretty expensive (like 80 bucks). I found some good deals at big sporting goods stores (I'm in Berkeley, CA) in the vicinity, (like 2 pairs for $80), but usually they don't have 4E. I think they make 6E, but I've never seen them in stores, so I haven't had a chance to find out how they fit. I have foot problems... specifically, I had foot surgery 2 years ago on my left foot (removed two Morton's neuromas!), so comfortable shoes are a must.

About 3 years ago I bought New Balance golf shoes (11 4E) online. Couldn't find any to try on in local stores!

I want some high top basketball shoes. I'm going to bolt skate trucks to them. Where can I find these in New Balance 4E where I don't have to pay a premium? Thanks for suggestions/ideas.

I just wanted to pop in and say NB shoes are uber awesome. They opened a small shop at our mall where they have the pressure-sensitive pad that you stand on - it recommends the shoes for your feet and then they build a custom insert for you. My feet are double wide as well and I've NEVER had shoes that fit properly (always had toe pinching). They weren't cheap, but they're worth double their weight in gold. It's like walking on a cloud. I love, love, love them.

New Balance 4E are the only shoes I have found that fit great the moment I put them on and I can't recall trying on a pair that disappointed in this respect. That's why I don't hesitate to buy them online!

However, I'm finding a number of NB models (offered in 4E) at my local Kohl's, generally at good prices compared to what I used to find around here, when they had them, plus Kohl's has frequent promotions ($10 off coupons, 15% off windows of opportunies). I suddenly have several pairs on hand, and a couple squirreled away. :) I keep my old ones for banging around.

One day I went into Kohl's with a promotion going on and they didn't have an 11 4E in the black shoe I wanted, but I tried on the 11 1/2 4E and it seemed OK, so I got it. WTH.
