95% or more of people will disagree with this but I feel the need to mention Family Bed or co-sleeping.

The surgeon general reccomends breast-feeding at least 6 months and preferably a year. That's pretty damn hard on everyone involved if the baby is in a crib. It's not for everyone, but it has worked extremely well for my family for the last 8 years, through 3 children.

At least consider the option, and read the reviews of the linked book.

Good luck! and Congratulations!

Um, what makes it hard to breastfeed if the baby is in a crib? I'm really confused on that statement, anyway...

My wife just finished breastfeeding in Dec (about 5 months) and then we moved on to formula and solids. Highly recommend using a pump (my wife used Medela's Harmony Manual which was great so she could sleep through the night and I would handle the morning feeding, and also for any trips you go on even just to the mall). If you're going on formula none of these issues apply.

As far as sleep pattern, I used some of the advice in Baby Wise (always apply common sense to the stuff you read tho) and my daughter has been sleeping from 7pm to 7am since about 6 weeks old and still sleeps that way at 8 months.

That's what we did, kept the babies in bed with us. Made breastfeeding much easier...nobody had to get up, just feed baby and go back to sleep. Had no problems whatsoever with transitioning them to toddler beds when they were big enough for it.
