Depends on what your looking for

Do you want one that they can continue to use as a toddler bed and than a twin/full size bed or just a plain crib?

If your looking for just a crib Walmart had some recently that was a crib and changing table for around 200

If your looking for the other try Babies r us and probably 300+

Just got one at a local place and it was 450 :(

Yeah walmart is know for quality =]

HARDWOOD MAN I NEED HARD WOOD!@!@#

Snoturtle: I found a store in town that has a decent crib $399.00= But my wife wants it in Black Stain... oh black in the same exact model is $550.00.

So, that's the only place we have other than BabyDepot and ToysRus in the ghetto...

So i thought someone might know a good website...

Try garage sales and friends with kids. You only need a crib for a few years.
I wish I could convince the Mrs to sell ours.

SLAP: How is it in pine... is the wood soft? Scratch too easy? I see a lot of reviews on pine cribs complaining that their fat baby eat the paint off....

You can't do research and you call yourself a geek? Hmmm.

Try a place like babystyle.com.

If you really want to chat about baby stuff, go to one of the baby-intensive places like lalecheleague.org.

The cribs that get recalled for lead paint or bad design aren't the ones from WalMart, they are the high-end ones that have fancy designs and such. Or the really tacky ones at the dollar store. So, buy with confidence from WalMart.

I was looking for experience and some reviews... I have googled all these results myself, but can you trust these people on the interweb...

That's guys... this info has been good so far...

They are everywhere, just look. We never had a crib for our kids, so I have no specific advice.

Try antique shops if you're looking for quality.

For a cheap fix you can simply line a pet carrier with some newspapers. My parents made me sleep under the sink until I was 5.

Belong to a church? Ask parents there, especially if all of their children are past that age (we got our crib free that way from a couple who got it free that way).

Check out garage sales/thrift stores.

Don't forget the mattress costs too, we kinda went all out and spent $90 on the mattress so we also got a sturdy vinyl cover so that all the piss and crap won't ruin it and we can keep it for all of our future children.

Just went through this. You will have to pay for quality. You will also need at least one dresser, so keep that in mind.

Try Ragazzi. They make top-notch stuff. They do not sell online, but you can use their delaer locator to find stores in your area. Chances are they will be smaller shops. If you find one of these stores, you will find that they carry lots of quality stuff. Most of Ragazzi's stuff comes wiht a 15 year warranty. It's meant to be used until the teens roll around.

Most cribs meet federal standards, but some things to look for:

- Convertability (one side comes off to use later as a toddler bed)
- Sturdiness - cribs with "drop-down" sides tend to wobbles and be less sturdy than fixed sides
- Ease/options to adjust the height as teh bambino gets bigger.

Things to look for in a dresser:

- Won't tip over when little jammers are crawling it like a rockface
- Locking drawer slides so small hands can't pull the drawers out on top of themselves

Buy the Consumer Reports book on baby products. It's 2004, so not all of the ratings are up to date, but there is a lot of great advice in there on all kinds of products.

Hmmmm. This is HIGHLY not recommended by most consumer groups. Depending on the age of the crib, it may not meet all of the latest Federal Safety Guidelines. My in-laws had a beautiful solid oak crib they wanted to give us, but you could have driven a truck between the slats. Easy for little heads to get caught in. You have to be very cautious by going this route. Same holds true for car seats.

A pack and play is a great option early on.
Link
It also has the bonus of being able to take it places with you.

Newsflash, your baby is going to grow out of a crib faster than you think. Buy a cheap Wal-mart/Target crib, or borrow one and be done with it.

Trust me, she won't know she didn't sleep in a brand new, $500+ black-cherry-with-gold-inlay-and-mahogony-accents crib.

The baby isn't here yet (due in May), but I also read the reviews stating it would dent easy. We have bumped into it a couple of times moving stuff around and it hasn't dented yet. I think for the price it is a nice crib. If you want a harder wood, be prepared to pay a lot more.
