Where is the bottleneck?

So my rig specs are below. No overclock. In certain situations, like when there is lots of action, shooting and movement, game stutters a little and then stops. Which component is the part that would be responsible for such jerkiness. Game settings are meduim high with 2x aa @ 1024x768. Card has 128mb. Doesn't happen often, but want to be on the lookout for a hot deal on the component it is to upgrade.

You system exceeds the minimum requirements to play HL2. The cause could be your system running low on RAM. If you run other applications while playing HL2, it may be leeching RAM from your game and cause it to stop functioning. Remember, it needs a full 256MB.

Why? a 6600gt is half the price and should play HL2 very well. My system w/ a 6600gt plays it fine at 1024x768 4x8x...I would make sure you are not running any other programs in the background and run spybot/adaware to clear out any spyware that could be leaching RAM. HL2 loves alot of RAM (512 is pretty much a minimum, but 1 GB is recommended, so assuming no major spyware/virii, you should be fine).

What drivers are you using? Have you tried OCing your CPU a little? It may be when there is a lot of action, you 3000+ is getting botlenecked and slowing you down.

dual 6600gt's do not outperform an x850xtpe in half life2 AT ALL

the x850xtpe can outperform DUAL ULTRA 6800'S IN SLI IN HL2!

A new 6800GT could be had for $325, and he could fetch $125-150 for the 6600GT. So it's about the same as getting another 6600GT.

Sure, a 6800gt and/or SLI would perform better, but a 6600gt should perform fine at those settings. All you components looks like they are well above spec, so the problem is most likely software related. Try a few different drivers and see if any will perform better.

they didn't even have a GeForce 6600 GT SLI review in that test. Gigabyte claims that it does in their tests. :p

well show me a link where the sli 6600gt's outperform the x850xtpe -.-

the only thing i can think of it outperforming it in is doom3 wich is more biased towards nvidia due to ATI's lack of opengl support

well the site i posted had 6800gt's and 6800 ultras since the sli'd 6800's do better then the 6600gt's in sli

what is the point of putting in the 6600gt sli setup when it shows the x850xtpe outperforming them

What? isn't that impossible?

where the hell did u get that assumption from? dual 6600 gt's perform on roughly on par with a single 6800 gt.

It's funny how everyone defends their company. I go for any company that offers me the best deal, and not because I always buy from it or like it.

I like both nVIDIA and ATI so I really do not care which card i get. :)

That's true that 3DMark does not pertain to real world gaming but dosen't that have any influence on performance at all?
