Where is a good place to buy suits?

Nothing uber-expensive, but I am starting to do more official business-type meetings, interviews, etc., and I would like to have a couple complete suits to wear. I suppose spending $200-300 a suit is reasonable.

Also, how do you clean your suits, and how often must they be cleaned? How expensive can it get?

I wouldn't mind it, but something tells me it wouldn't be very classy in interviews.

That is what I suspected. Where else could I look to find decent prices?

Personally Men's Wearhouse has done ok in my opinion but I've only gotten pieces of suits from them. I hear some complaints about their service thuogh.

You can get a pretty damn good suit if you wait for a sale @ a department store like Macy's.
I got a $590 suit for $275 way back when.

Nice. Is there any particular "style" of suit I should be looking for?

Find a tailor. An inexpensive tailored suit will look better than an expensive off-the-rack suit. I go to a tailor for my dress slacks because it's hard to find 32-34 slacks in a department store. It's actually less expensive for me to get a pair of gaberdine (sp?) wool slacks tailored to fit me than it is for me to get a pair of 32-34 slacks from a department store. As for cleaning, that depends on the fabric.

ZV

EDIT: A tailor will also be able to help you figure out the appropriate style.

Jos. A. Bank is pretty damn cool. Don't know if they're national or what though. Anyway, their stuff starts at about $200 for your standard black & white - suitable for funerals, weddings, and all but the most formal of formal events - even in "extreme fatass" size. Only complaint is that the attendant complemented my butt...

Are you kidding? 32-34 is all I can find retail.

Where are you in the country? In Ohio they just don't have them. There are plenty of 32-32 and 34-34 slacks to choose from, but slacks with a 32 inch waist and a 34 inch inseam are almost never stocked here unless I were to buy a pair of Dockers or something. Dockers, however, are decidedly not dress pants. They are casual. Dress slacks do not have a visible button above the zipper, and dress slacks are not cotton.

Ebay has some excellent deals if you know your measurements and know what to look for; of course I wouldn't recommend it until you get some experience. Depending where you are you might be able to find an outlet for a high-end department store (e.g. Sak's Off Fifth), which usually has better quality stuff at lower prices. Bluefly.com and Yoox.com have some interesting options depending on your size and style, and they have fairly flexible return policies. Some of the discount stores like Marshalls occasionally have well-priced gems in them, but again you need to know what to look for because there's a lot of crap you have to sort through. Truth be told, $200-300 retail won't give you any style options and will basically be somewhat of a "cheap" suit. I don't know how much this matters to you, but if you set your sights higher and look for discounts you can do very well however.

Macy's or something along those lines might be a good bet. Macy's has a buy one get one free deal several times a year...you can get two nice suits for around $200 a pop that way.

Yes, but the cost for the flight outweighs any savings I might gain on the suits themselves.

I bought a suit at the Glendale Suit Outlet. It cost me 70 dollars. I think it looks nice and I don't think it screamed 100% polyester at anybody. I liked it. :)

Obviously, you don't live near Glendale. But if you did, I'd suggest you have a look!
