Yes, but the cost for the flight outweighs any savings I might gain on the suits themselves.
That depends on how many you buy :D

btw: as for style, depending on your figure, I would recommend a slim, 3 button with those shorter style collars, anthracite is always classy, also buy a nice tie to go with the suit. For brand: Hugo Boss is nice - reasonable priced and very good quality; for fabric, only wool should be accepted

But the advice with the tailor is a good one too, I heard there are tailors where u can choose the fabric and style, then they send of your measure to somewhere in asia where it is sawn - hence the good price

Locally I would say Men's Warehouse, ive gotten a nice suit there.

But I really like the idea about going over to HK. Why not make a vacation out of it?

If you're going to try to get custom suits you really need to do a lot of research. Just because a place will make a custom suit cheap doesn't mean the suit itself will be good. I haven't tried it myself but I've heard a fair share of horror stories about people who went overseas to the first/cheapest tailor they could find and bought a bunch of suits that either fell apart after only a few drycleanings, looked awful, or just had poor construction. I suggest reading up on the basics of a good suit: fused v. canvas front, how the lapels rest, quality of wool, etc. Knowing the basic stylistic features and what not of a suit is also a really good idea so you know what's appropriate and get something that you like that will look good. Personally, I think $300 can still get you a much better quality suit if you can find the right discount. I wouldn't recommend ebay to a novice, but they have suits that retail at $2000-3000 going for $400-600 fairly often.

What about Sears? Not saying that I would spend large amounts of money there, but I have heard of many people relying on them for general-use suits.

Check outlet stores like Marshalls and such. Sometimes you can get really good quality suits cheap. Then take it to a tailor for alterations.

I did it years ago when I needed a suit for interviews after graduating. I got 2 at $100 each. Nice Italian suits.

I bought one last year for a wedding. I think it was like 100-150. Again, a nice italian suit with lined pants. My father in law (who used to be a tailor at Boyds) was amazed at the price.

Are they good-quality suits? (i.e. could I buy one and expect it to last for a decade or so?)

Jos. A. Bank is having a sale right now on their "Separates" suits. They sell the slacks separate from the jacket, which is good, because unless you wear your jacket 100% of the time, your slacks will wear out first. Around $210 for jacket + pants without alterations. I almost bought one myself tonight, but then I decided to stop by the B&M store nearby work.

My best suit is from their Signature line, but it's also my most expensive one ($300 or $400 on sale IIRC).

I also have suits from Marshall Field's and Carson Pirie & Scott. About the same quality and around $250 each.

I didn't really like my suits from Kuppenheimer.

Tailoring is pretty expensive, so remember to factor that into the cost of a suit.

Dryclean only. Sucks. Expensive. I get the slacks cleaned every third or fourth time I wear it, and the jacket every once in awhile. I only wear the jacket on the way in to work, when I meet with clients (not very often), and on the way out. When I get more suits, I'll increase the cleaning frequency.

BTW, I find it completely unfair that women at my work don't have to wear suits too.

You live in Seattle. Go to Nordstroms, high quality suits at excellent prices with great service. Or go to Meier & Franks if you need a little less expensive.

I usually buy my suits from Macys. They have some pretty nice suits. They're a little expensive though, unless you buy when they have a sale.

If you can wait, check the upscale stores during end-of-season sales. This year was particularly good. I saw good suits for $150, and I even got a nice coat for $49 (the label said $450, but I'm sure it was never sold for that much. Traveling overseas is also good if you have the time, no language barriers. I don't know about HK, but you can get excellent fabrics/suits in some Eastern European countries and in the southern part of S. America (wool tradition).

If you have a Chelsea's Premium Outlets near you locations, check out the Brooks Brothers Factory Store. They have good prices on separates ($239 for jacket, $79 for pants), and the suits are better tailored than most dept stores. I got a navy blue and charcoal gray suit from them (like this), and the sales guy was helpful and not hounding me to buy cuff links or anything.

Since entering the corporate world, these are the only two places I buy suits. My father-in-law is a tailor, so I can have him make any necessary adjustments.

Wearing the same $500 suit every time will be much better than any $200-$300 suit you will find anywhere else.

My wife made me get rid of my Men's Warehouse suit a couple years ago. I liked it, but seeing how much nicer a $500-$700 suit is, there is not way I would go back.
