Where does the misconception come from that European cities are safe?

Quick and dirty translation:

He actually says that PIX has some serious problems and then talks about a time when he met a man who was convinced that German, French and italian were the national languages of Sweden, dispite the fact that he(SnapIt) is indeed Swedish and should know.

yep, even if you are both swedish. I have talked with finns on this board. But those discussion take place in english. Posts in threads are meant for everyone to see and read, so they should be in english, since that is the common language here. PM's can be in any language, since they aren't meant for others.

Why all the Europe bashing lately? You can find just as many bad things about the US as you can about Europe. They both have their ups and their downs just like any other place.

Everybody knows this, but there is no argument on something everybody agrees on 🙂. So for the sake of the argument u have to contribute something contoversial or at the very least something ignorant so the bashing go on and on...

Was looking for FBI stats on crime in Europe compared to the USA, but couldn't find those. Did dig up these links though:

Drugs: Sweden vs The Netherlands
US crime rates rising still (few sites reported a decline, FBI doesn't)

"Rising still?"

This is the first year the US has seen an increase since 1992.

That shows that you can make statistic support any claims you want to make... 😉

It does nothing of the sort. "Rising still" is an incorrect statement, no matter how you read the stats.

That depends on what timeframe you are looking at, if crimes goes up one month... you can claim that it is rising...

The stats he uses do not separate the numbers by month. You're still incorrect.

It was an example... of how you can manipulate statistics to suit your claims... but then let's say that crimes have gone up this year compared to last... you can do the same thing...

You cannot. One jump is not "rising still." You are bringing up imaginary "what ifs" that do not exist in this case, to make your case that he was correct. He was not.

Europe ain't so "lilly white" these days - Even back in the 70's when my grandma still lived in paris she remembered when she got out of one metro station and then the police stopped her and asked her what she was doing and apparently there was a confrontation with some arabs in that neighbourhood - so even back then it wasn't "lilly" white.
I would be willing to bet there are more blacks, asians, arabs, and hispanics in Michigan than in the whole of Europe.

I am willing to take that bet.... what is the wager?? Anyway u can send my winning to me, I won:

Michigan has a total white population of :7966053 ( just about 1.8mill non white)
only Germany has a foreign population of :7267600 8 (that is only the population without german passport, dunno the number of non teutonic germans as there is no differentiation)

I did not say he was correct, i just said that you can manipulate statistics to show whatever you want them to show... i didn't say it made it right... i agree that he was wrong, don't put words in my mouth... thank you..

It's more for the "not so fast internet" people i was saying, on my account please continue....

It's an interresting discussion as I will be spending 3 1/2 weeks in the USA starting the 22.(from east to to west by minivan)

I witnessed about 3 acts of petty theft in my whole life, and i've been on vacation in the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Belgium (I live in the Netherlands).

I'm curious hat 3 1/2 weeks USA will bring....
