Based on this thread

This is a pretty jacked up situation, but granted it is true that many of these situation can be just a kid throwing a temper tantrum. I have seen kids pull stunts like this in stores and restaurants and other public places.

Suppose a kid was pulling away from a man, but was NOT saying "You're not my daddy." Some kids are not trained to be vocal in these situations and will thereby easily get abducted, but they will struggle and whine. In these cases, it is hard to differentiate between a tantrum and an abduction.

I believe the best way is to train everyone to have visual and vocal cues. Just like a stop sign,an emergency siren, or phrases yeleld out like "fire" -- Can't the govenment start teaching a vocal cue, that they can post to educate society as a whole to. Phrases like "you're not my dad" or "ABDUCTER!" could be taught to kids to yell in case of emergency (it should also be taught that misuse of these words is a crime, like "fire", in a public place), and the general population could be trained to respond to those cues. I mean there are a lot of education program based on these ideas, but not a SET METHOD, which is important in today's society. Why don't they have this? I mean they TRAIN kids to watch out and struggle and yell out, but I think in a "sheep" follow the herd society we have, cues are a much better method of education.

That's all fine and well until a brat does that to their own parents.

Either way it's a mess. But I agree, you need to world proof your children, not child proof the world.

Parent's can train a kid to do that, but if the public is not aware of vocal CUES, they will not respond and will therefore follow the herd mentality.

To say that it is the parent's responsibility is true, but in such a large society, it is a social problem as well, and should be taught as such. Why have a cop-out answer, when the issue is more complex than it seems?

That is why it should be taught as a crime, like the phrase "FIRE", as I said before if misused. If it is taught as a taboo word unless in emergency, there may be cases of misuse at first, but sooner or later it will become in grained in our psyche. Plus, a person (parent/abductor) can be detained without physical force, and it would become apparent if they were or not, and therefore it wouldn't be a total issue, just a small hassle.

**EDIT**

Also in the case of misuse, the parent could easily prove they are the parents or even show their identification, like a DL in case of suspicion as a countermeasure for misuse. This could be trained as well.

Why wouldn't something like this work? It is a simple idea, and it has worked in the past. Why go through all these tax dollars making, new innovative ways of prevention, when this would probably be the easiest way to prevent a situation? I think the Amber Alert is a great thing, but how about the useless side programs that seem to do nothing.

If a kid is yelling "HELP" I think I'd step up. I don't think a kid needs to be trained to yell "HELP."

because idiotic kids does not know consequences and will think it is funny to use the "cue" words to get their parents in trouble.

If a kid can play these newfangled video games that are so complicated, I'm sure they can figure out a way to evade kidnapping, or possibly escape captivity after being kidnapped. IE: They're more than able to fend for themselves.

But the general public needs to be trained, so that they will respond.

And kids do need to be trained otherwise they clam up. Rape victims, even adults, will clam up, because they aren't trained to do it. Humans are quite inept unless they are taught something.

Sorry, but that was the dumbest thing I have heard in this post. You don't deal with kids much do you?

I work at the courthouse in Harris County as a programmer. Part of my job is to track down offenders.

You're right, you're right. Most of these video games now are first person shooters. The kids would be pretty helpless unarmed. I should have seen it before: we arm the children. You're a genius.

Now we need to choose firearms that fit their little hands, and don't have too much recoil. Ideas?
