I research this a while back, say 10 years ago, there is a foundry in texas that'll teach you and train you in sword making.. I lost the website but its in texas.. better rack up some $$$ because it isn't cheap..

1) Don't post a "cost is no object" request then state that it should cost around a certain point. You are waaay off base for what you want done.

2) I happen to know someone that does this. He currently lives in Texas. I haven't talked to him for a while, but I could drop him an eMail if your serious.

PM me with details, and I'll see what I can do.

I'm glad you can read about weapons. I'm willing to bet that your "years of training" with weapons has always been in a controlled environment with wooden bokku. Talk to me about being decent at swordplay after you have had the adrenline rush of using real weapons, in an uncontrolled environment, knowing that regardless of the outcome of the fight, you'll be getting in trouble for defending yourself with an illegal weapon (yes, swords are illegal in all states except Florida I believe). For some reason, I doubt you have had the proper training with bladed weapons, as your mentality towards them is undeveloped, and you're understanding of the consequences is non-existent. I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just trying to prevent you from making a huge mistake, as I once did. (Even though I'm not much older than you)

heh, you are so correct. I didn't read your posts after the first one till now. Nothing I've ever done is anything like the rush of real sword play. Yeah you can get cut, stabbed and will most likely end up bleeding...

Oh, and for all you kids out there that want to swordfight, don't go buy a sword and hack at each other. You will kill, maim or get maimed or killed. Not something to play around without training and a good head.

i defended myself against an icepick with a nighthawk.

i know full well the dirk, dagger, and swords laws. they are a pita, i know. but it's better to be convicted of using an illegal weapon than lose one's life, no?

by cost is no object, what i meant was a not machined steel sword, but a handforged one. sorry for the confusion, i know it's my fault... i'll edit it out in a second.

i'll look and check out some of my earlier drawings... i'm looking into doing this, not committing yet (well, not committing till i have researched the topic adequitely). i havent finalized the design of the polearm fully yet, i'm going to go through my drawings, finish up the design, and pm ya.

Can you post pics of your sword?

I can't right now, because I'm up at college, and I didn't bring the sword with me. I didn't think that it would be a good idea to bring a bladed weapon up here (to give you an idea of how sharp the sword is, it will cut straight through the base of a willow tree about 3 inches in diameter). However, if someone reminds me next weekend when I come home, I'll be glad to posts pics.

And...

Walleye. You still don't see my point. Please, before you think you have the necessary skills to adequately defend yourself with a blade, take some instructions from a qualified teacher, and have him check you out before you go out swinging a sword to defend yourself. Until such time that you are ready, there are plenty of alternatives, such as blunt weapons: billy clubs, nightsticks, and random object you find around you. Or hell, run away if you get in a situation where you need to defend yourself. I've seen one to many people think they know how to defend themselves only to
a.) hurt themselves
or
b.) find out they weren't prepared to hurt/maim/kill someone else

Please, seek training and advice before you pursue such an intent.

"i defended myself against an icepick with a nighthawk."

oh yea, well I defended myself against a candlestick in the study.

WHAT THE FOCK IS a Nighthawk? isn't that a helicopter?

What did you do to get someone to attack you with an icepick? also the fact that 1 of your 3 designs is a cane with a sword in it that you'd carry around for self defense is recockulous. Honestly. Ever heard of a KNIFE? brass knuckles? A regular old baseball bat?

Also no matter how good with swords you are, give me a goddamn baseball bat and you can have a katana, gungpole or whatever and cane sword, all i'd have to do is think back to all your retarded ass posts and if you made 1 move i'd bash your annoying head in.

THE END GOODBYE.

A nighthawk is a knife made by Buck Knives. it's a fairly long blade, half serrated, powder coated, w/ no slip when wet handle.

Ever heard of Class? the idea behind the cane/sword is that i'd be fully concealed, look completely inconspicuous.

and if i'm so annoying why dont you just leave? not look at my posts? at least i can mantain civility....

So you are saying that a sword is more easily concealeable than a knife or handgun? You do not get a sword for self defense! Period! Even bruce lee himself carried around a pistol (to kill coke).

edit:

and if you were to be "assaulted", the assailant would either be some distance from you with a hand gun, or very close to you with a knife on your neck.

It is unfortunate that you think that way. Through rage one meets their own end. If he was proficient in the use of sword (which I do not believe that he is) then you and your baseball bat, striking through rage, would end up with one of three fates:

a.) you lose a perfectly good baseball bat

b.) you lose a perfectly good arm

or

c.) you lose a perfectly good life

Think before you speak.

A tanto, in the right hands, is much better than any knife, and is as easily concealed. There is no match for a gun at a distance, nor at short range, unless one is trained, confident, and not afraid of death.

lol

1) You're not from IRVINE, are you?

2) Cane swords, as you proclaim to already know, are strictly illegal in CA.

3)
Ever heard of Class? the idea behind the cane/sword is that i'd be fully concealed, look completely inconspicuous.

look completely inconspicuous? lol an 18-year old walking fine but with a cane? Oh yeah, THAT won't look suspicious...

4) Someone already mentioned in the thread about knives (oh yeah, it was me), that you'd be better off with some good training first. ("my friend showed me a few moves" doesn't count). dtyn seems to concur. Since knives don't seem to offer enough protection for you, (or you wouldn't be wanting to carry around swords) i'd get some training with a firearm or other form of self defense. A self-defense class perhaps? Most of the true expert (and even well-trained) martial artists don't carry weapons because they're confident enough to not have to walk around with 36" swords on them.

Remember what Sun Tzu said: "For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill."

5) Stop watching zatoichi and akira kurosawa movies. ;)

the cane sword wouldnt be this gigantic monolithic sword. it'd be about 1.5 feet long... it'd be more like a cane dagger/shortsword. a ninja-to without a guard.

and i've seen lots of people my age with canes and such. injuries, that kinda thing.

anyway, i will be finishing training before i'd ever think to use it. and besides, it's meant for use when i'm well dressed (that's why a cane sword, and not just a tanto)

and i dont plan on living in california when i get the cane sword commissioned. not sure where i will be living, but i want OUT of this state.

i'll just give a strait reply to both these responses in one.

i know i need more training.

no, i never had "buddies who showed me moves". i was trained in karate. Kempo, and later shotokan. never progressed very far in either. However, i will be getting back into some discipline of karate. i need the exercise, too.

and i dont watch dumb movies.

the tv show highlander, however... :)

and i'm listening to both of you. this isnt something i'm intending on just yet. i'm researching for future commission/use. like i said, i want to establish a relationship with a smithing company and get several pieces.

i guess you all dont see the time schedule this is on.

I did think before I spoke, sorta.

Notice I did not say that I would take you on with a baseball bat. You seem to know what the hell your talking about/doing, so I wouldn't mind taking you on with a baseball bat with you unarmed but I won't be defending myself with a 2.5" diameter chunk of wood if you've got one of these blades you seem to know about ;)

Walleye I have a feeling you live in a fantasy world. Honestly, it'd be less retarded to walk around with a cane and use the CANE as self defense than to walk around with a cane with a secret ninja sword hidden inside it. Frankly I think a possession of a concealed weapon charge would do way more harm to you than your made up assailants.

You never answered the question of why you were attacked with an ice pick and how you held them off with a fairly long, half serrated, powdercoated anti slip hunting knife either walleye :)

How can a kid that got kicked out of his home and with no job and no skills afford a "cost is no object" sword?
