well, i will be in 3 days...
the polearm is just because i like polearms, and i've had a design floating around in my head for several years now.
the katana is because i've done some karate, i would like a katana or wakizashi. they are cool.
the cane sword would be for self defense. it'd be essentially a ninja-to built into a cane w/o a guard.
i'm sure it wouldnt cost more than 600 dollars. it's nowhere near the same quality level as a great katana, and sword prices ramp up depending on the name recognition of the smith.

If you want a katana because they're cool, buy a cheepo machine made one, and save yourself some money. And I would recommend not purchasing a cane sword for defense, as you would most likely end up hurting yourself before hurting your attacker. Buy one after you've had years of formal training. I really wish the standard public was forbade from purchasing long-bladed weapons. They swing them around like a baseball bat, and call themselves proficient. Sorry, just a rant from a long time -jutsu practicioner.
You cannot find a custom sword for under two thousand dollars. And even those are of questionable quality. Anything under two thousand and you're are being had.
and as a "would be" college student, where are you getting the $$$ for your customized hand made authentic sword?

self defense? lol, you going to carry it around with you ALL the time? Just get a bat if you're planning on keeping it at the house.

If you want a katana because they're cool, buy a cheepo machine made one, and save yourself some money. no, a ninja-to is not a slashing weapon. i realize QUITE WELL that it is a stabbing weapon. and i have had years of training in weapons, maybe not great at them, but i'm not too bad at swordplay.

I'm glad you can read about weapons. I'm willing to bet that your "years of training" with weapons has always been in a controlled environment with wooden bokku. Talk to me about being decent at swordplay after you have had the adrenline rush of using real weapons, in an uncontrolled environment, knowing that regardless of the outcome of the fight, you'll be getting in trouble for defending yourself with an illegal weapon (yes, swords are illegal in all states except Florida I believe). For some reason, I doubt you have had the proper training with bladed weapons, as your mentality towards them is undeveloped, and you're understanding of the consequences is non-existent. I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just trying to prevent you from making a huge mistake, as I once did. (Even though I'm not much older than you)
