I'm not debating him over his beliefs just the stupid statment at the end.

That is his belief and he is entitled to it. Just leave it go.

fo sheezy.

I like the idea behind this thread, there is just no way its happening. People love to argue, and they love to argue even more when there is no way to prove anyone wrong.

No they don't.

arghhh... the humanity...

I have learned that it's almost impossible to have a mature discussion on anandtech and this is due to the fact that the majority of it's members are in their twenties and still act like six year olds. I expect better but I guess that it will never come.

You didn't ask for a discussion, in fact you strongly discouraged the idea of discussing folks' ideas. You simply wanted a listing. Inventory threads tend toward tedium w/o discussion and debate.

After we die and are creamated our ashes are scattered by the airplane pilot who we paid the society to do before our death.

However, the pilot merely scattered our ashes around his yard which was not our intention. True story.

After we die there is nothing left except others' memories of us. There is no pre-ordained purpose to our living existence. We define what our own purpose is.

Well, there are couple of choices to be made, which are, in the ground, where the worms roll in, the worms roll out. Or, burn, baby burn, and scatter. Which would you prefer? 😉

That's what happens to our bodies, anyway. I have my own beliefs about our spirits, however, so no cares there. The body was just a living vehicle to carry my spirit around in anyway....you know, just a neffing tool. 🙂

All organisms on this earth live and die. We are only different because we are smarter than other organisms, we still live and die, just like them. We are not special.

in reply to OP's question, can i post after I die ?? 🙂 (in other words, I have no clue)

I think we return to nature. Consciousness stops, just like I don't remember a day before my birth I won't remember anything after the day of my death. My mind is the only thing giving me any form of perception, and at death, this perception will stop.

There is no soul, but immortality will be achieved one day through science. The first step is to preserve the DNA of the person, from which one day a complete replica of the living body can be made. The next step will be to transfer our memories from the old body into the new.

We don't go anywhere. You can't go anywhere if you're dead. Now your spirit/soul that's another story of which I have no fvcking idea of.

I'm young enough to take into consideration the times we're entering, and that I may very well not have to concern myself with mortality for at least a few billion years 🙂

But if I die, fvck it, I certainly won't care by then.

There has been discussion here of Soylent Green. I began thinking that we go to "Carousel" to have our bodies recycled. But now I think this may have been in the film "Logan's Run."

I must rent Logan's Run again. Where is Carousel?

We go into oblivion. We exist as a pattern of electrochemical impulses, and when the infrastructure charged with the upkeep of that pattern cannot continue to function, the activity fades to nothing, and so do we.

Our purpose is to create a purpose for ourselves.

I have no idea. I don't give it much thought, ever. I fear death, but not on a daily basis. I feel that whatever happens when we die, whether it be nothingness, judgement, or rebirth, there is nothing we can do to control it beyond being a good person.

I don't buy into having to accept a religion to avoid damnation. With this theory, it would be a horrible act for two people to have a child together because they are giving that child a significant risk of burning in hell for all of eternity. Why would you want to subject someone to that? Why would you even want to slightly risk subjecting someone to that?

My religious beliefs are of a more practical nature and fall in line with Buddhism for than anything. When it starts getting into the afterlife I relate it to the overall teachings but don't think its any more true than any other religion.
