While watching The Phantom Menace back in 1999, during the opening scene of the movie, where Obi-Wan and Quigon are on the trade federation ship as ambassadors... the ship that brought them there is betrayed and blasted while it's in the hangar of the ship.

The female captain has just enough time to yell "shields up!" when she sees the turret come down from the ceiling to blast them, and even though I knew that's what she had said, it sounded a lot like "Geosurface!" to me.

I found this amusing because, I thought about someone being nerdy enough to yell that as their ship, say... crashed into a planet's surface. The idea that someone would be an instant from death, and instead of yelling "oh fuck!" or something, would choose to go with something hyper-nerdy/scientific sounding, which isn't even a real word... well, as I said. It amused me.

So I started using the name in Counter-Strike etc.

Not sure what sparked my interest in it originally but I have always loved mythology in general, I have used some form of this ID since my 300 baud BBS days.

I've always been interested in ancient civilizations, and their obsession with tracking celestial events.

When I started dating my wife in college, she mentioned to someone that I was studying to be an actuarial, as I was taking actuarial science and she had never heard of an actuary. She had probably heard me say actuary, but had heard actuarial science more and so that one stuck.

I thought it was funny, started using it as a screen name.

Edit: I'm 99% sure that I had signed up for the forums prior to January 09 under the handle 'distracted', which I had used on other forums, but then lurked for years and when I tried to sign back on couldn't get it to work. Where I came up with that one I think is obvious to everyone here.

I was known as the supernova guy in grad school. The dynamics of a supernova were my expertise.

I registered way back in 2000/01 with my regular username, Marneus.

I left for a while, moved around and lost my email address (tied to ISP), so registered again with this name.

Majunior is a DragonballZ reference, and was the name Piccolo used at the World Martial Arts tourny to stay annonymous.

the platypus is a quagmire of a creature that shouldn't really exist but persists despite its completely odd nature. it's made up of a lot of different things and defies typical categorization as there is only one other creature in its class. I can relate to it.
