Labour job for my neighbour's oil field supply company. Basically stacking plastic piping and cleaning up the joint. Great physical work, $10 per hour and as much work as I wanted (or not)

I worked at a movie theater from 16-17. Then I got a job in the mall at a small local gamestore chain, and I'm still working there now, whilst going to college.

A chinese restaraunt as a busboy/dishwasher
As a floor sweeper/parts getter/oil changer at my Dad's shop
As a Lifeguard

I think that's about it. The jobs all sucked but I'm glad now that I had them, it made me realize how bad some people's jobs really are.

at 15 I was a lifeguard, did that until I was 16 and then I taught tennis lessons and worked at the front desk of a tennis club. The pay wasn't that great, but I got paid to do my homework and tell people which court they're playing on when they showed up. Did that until I went to college. During college I worked at the computer lab for a few years and then worked at best buy so I could exploit the discount and buy lots of fun stuff including a big screen tv.

Worked at a greenhouse during the summer I was 15, made enough to by a bike.

Used that bike to get a job at Wal-Mart, made enough money to buy a car.

Used the car to get a job at an arcade that I worked at until I graduated from HS.

[add] My dad & I worked our ass off as janitors to pay off the 10K that we owed the Canadian government for immigration processing fees & air tickets, and pay off our 97K home by spring of 1987.

1980 -- fall, immigrated to Canada with the help of the Canadian government (owed 10K CAD because we didn?t have any money)
1983 -- pay off our 10K immigration loan, down 22K (10K was from my personal saving that I accumulated from 2 paper routes, lawn mowing, and carpet cleaning) on a house that cost 97K & the mortgage was yearly variable at 14.8% (the house now worth close to 500K)
1987 -- we clear title of our home in early spring.
1989 -- summer, my dad purchased our second home at 164K with 63K down.
1990 -- winter, my dad was diagnostic with cancer.
1991 -- early summer, my dad gave the second home to my oldest sister for her wedding & undergrad present.
1991 ? july, my dad died from cancer.

You guys worked hard and deserve your investment in your houses :)

Why is fast food such a popular job as a teenager? Seemed like a sucky job then, and even more now. Actually any food service other then waiter maybe - I've heard you can do pretty well on tips doing that.

There always seemed to be more interesting stuff available when I was a kid - may not pay well, or be very regular, but alot more fun.

Because it pays well and you don't need to spend an hrs wage on buying lunch.

Not really - I can't comment on current pay, but when I was in H.S. minimum wage was $3.25/hr IIRC, and that's what fast food was paying in my area. I was making $5+/hr doing farmwork - and lunch was part of the deal.

I worked at my parents Fish and Chip and Chinese takeaway from 15 onwards. I'm 21 and I still work there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 5 till 9pm :p.

I worked at KFC for 4 months to earn some extra cash but it was really tiring after playing Rugby on Sundays and doing the late shift. I also worked 8hrs on Saturday then another 4hrs at my parents place. I quit KFC in the end as it was interfering with my Rugby.

I had a few temp jobs doing office admin stuff, data entry etc. The pay was good at £6/hr :)

I worked a childrens summer camp at 18 and that was a lot of fun. I did the same summer camp again a few weeks ago. I took time out from my real job to do it in fact.

The pay now is good still and most jobs don't give you free lunch :p. Doesn't include all the free food you can take home also :p
