Thanks, :). I'm a little familiar with the D40 as my mom owns one, just haven't had any "alone" time with one, he he. I've been using Nikon for 10 years now (amateurishly) and I love em, but this is my first D-SLR, :).

No experience with that brand of filter, but shop around online and you can get a name brand one for the same price (Hoya, B+W, Nikon, Canon, Tiffen). Any 52mm filter will fit.

There are eBay sellers that sell authentic Nikon batteries for cheap; there are some decent third-party batteries too. I wouldn't worry about battery life since EN-EL9 batteries are so cheap.

Yeah, I knew I could get me a nice Tiffen filter from Adorama so I didn't chance it with the Sunpack. Plus I also need to pick up a UV filter for my Canon HV20 (thanks to Kaido for pointing that out). Might look into getting another battery pack, thanks for the tips.

Now just can't wait to get home and play with my new toy again, :).

Nikon D40 from Amazon.com last November.

Got the D40 w/ 18-55 kit lens, 55-200 VR lens, camera bag, strap, UV filter for ~ $560 shipped.

No complaints about buying from an online retailer.

Besides the random clearance sales, that was by far one of the best deals in recent memory. The 55-200mm VR retails for $200+ alone.

You got a great deal too; I love that tiny camera. You should pick up a pancake lens for it.

Yah. I was in between the A100, XTi, and the D40. The deal was just too good on the D40 to pass up.

and thanks jpeyton for the check list

yes. it was a very very risky deal... heh. I don't know what compelled me to risk it, but in the end, I used up my luck for the year and made out well.

no, it didn't. that's why I said my luck was used up at the end of the year.. and quite possibly for this year too, haha.

D70 from someone that didn't want it anymore. D200 from San Jose Camera. D2x from someone that upgraded to a D3.

haha, well, shipping was expensive as hell, but the price on the deal made it worth it still. I think I was the 3rd sale he had on the forums over 2yrs or something.

Well, got my D40 from eCost. It is new, not remanufactured and it arrived early than they said it would. Overall I am happy with eCost and this camera is awesome.

I was just wondering if you received it yet. Whoa, its actually new? and you paid the remanufactured price?

The lack of an extended warranty option is what is keeping me away from eCost.
wow dont know why i had a question mark at the end of that..

iirc, you can buy a mack extended warranty from b&h even if you don't get the camera there

I was kinda worried about it being remanufactured because of the $399 price, the eCost website is not very informative about the camera, but when I got it I quickly became happy and at least for this transaction I am quite satisfied with eCost.
