I have vacationed in Germany, France, and Greece.

Edit: Should add NOLA for Mardi Gras.

Nowhere really. Went to North Carolina for work. Headed to Seattle once or twice and was in San Francisco earlier in the year. I had to paint and renovate my place a bit, which took me over a week to complete, so I kind of ran out of time for a trip.

Next year I'm planning a trip though; leaning towards Reykjavík for next August.

Just got back from Maui. Good place to visit if you prefer to stay in America. Great snorkeling, hiking, zip lining...lots of interesting things to do (bamboo forest hike, bike the Haleakala crater, visit nearby islands.)

For outside the US, I absolutely *love* Aruba. Hands down the best vacation I've ever been on.

going to bahamas in december and aruba in march though. can't wait!

and Maui is fucking awesome, went there on my honeymoon and would love to go back there. it's a really far trek from the east coast though.

This past 12 months (each number is a different trip for pleasure):

1) France. Paris and the south of France (generally Provence region).
2) South Africa and Zimbabwe. Went for a wedding, to see Victoria Falls and a quick safari.
3) Las Vegas area. Went for the grand canyon, Zion national park, and Vegas shows.
4) Pella, Iowa. Went for the tulips and best food I've found in the midwest.
5) Scottsbluff, NE. Went to visit in-law and hike the bluffs.
6) Norway and Sweden. Hiked a glacier, saw friends who recently moved there, cruised the fjords.

That period covered 2 years of vacation time, so it is a bit more travel than normal.

Tell us what you like and we can give recommendations. Great food? Great scenery? Relaxation? Great shows?

nowhere :(

I had a trip to Canada all planned out, but two of my best friends lost their jobs and I wasn't going to go on vacation without them, so we just did a couple day-trips to free/cheap places this summer.

Vacation? What the fuck is a vacation?

This.

I'm too poor for vacations and I rather have some material items than spend a few thousand dollars on vacations. (It would be nice to have a laptop and an up-to-date computer) If I had all those material possessions then that's when it's time to go on vacation.

OBX for a week and also Smith Mountain Lake in VA for a weekend. Among various other weekend trips that I don't really consider vacation.

That is the most ridiculous point of view I've ever heard. Vacations are where you make memories that last forever. Who'd rather have a pile of techno-crap that'll be worth less than nothing in 5-10 years?

I would get a lot more use out of those items than the vacation. I am not a sentimental fool.

I went to the west coast in June - Vancouver, Seattle and Whistler. I was mighty impressed with Van, much less so with Seattle.

Earlier I went to Mexico and Belize - rented a car in Cancun and drove to the south of Belize in back over the course of 12 days. Mexico was much nicer than I expected and Belize is a great little country - it felt like the entire country was one big small town.

As usual, neither vacation was long enough :\

This.

The wife and I aren't going on a big vacation this year (we've been on several the past few years), but we hope to go back to Europe next year. I'd choose a vacation to a nice destination over more computer stuff any day of the year. You're not going to remember your 2011 laptop model and configuration in 20 years, but you'll probably remember the trip to France or Italy with your wife.
