Stock market crashed Jan, 1973 to Dec, 1974.
US enter Vietnam War 1956
US retreated from Vietnam War Jan, 1973.

The 17 year war bankrupt the US.

Stock market crash Oct, 2008...
1991 First Gulf War (technically never ended)
2008 US talk about pull out of the Iraq (gulf) War.

Once again the world wealthiest nation is bankrupt in another 17 year war.

That was my first thought, but with as bad as his grammar is in that first post, he might not speak English as a first language...

I'm not American, and I'm sorry for the improper English.

Yeah, except that in Vietnam WE ACTUALLY HAD TROOPS FIGHTING AND DYING IN A FOREIGN LAND FOR 17 YEARS.

The Iraq war was stupid and costly, but it alone did NOT bankrupt the US.

It's sure as hell not helping.

Not only are the soldiers (Army and Blackwater) being paid their regular salaries, but they're also not doing work that's contributing to this economy, nor are they purchasing items, further contributing to this economy. Well, with the exception of providing demand for ammunition and other wartime equipment.
I suppose even that is only a few hundred thousand individuals.

Even so, it's just another big drain on our government's budget, which we most certainly do not need.

Ok, bad grammar asside, all you are doing is manipulating numbers to make something out of nothing.

I don't claim to be an expert on Vietnam, but anything I can find said US military involvement didn't start until the mid 60's! What is this 1956 number you speak of? There were military advisors in Vietnam in the 50's but I would hardly consider that "entering the Vietnam War."

*edit* ok, now I'm done with this worthless thread.

Are we any better off?
Reagan started this "big gov is bad" thing.
Due to that, we lost our chance at true universal health care i.e. the Clintons plan.
We were told "we can not afford it", as a nation.
We could not afford any services that really helped people.
Imagine if we were all covered by national healthcare today, removing the profit from
healthcare, and removing the connection between healthcare and employment.
But we couldn?t afford that, we were told.
Republicans were anti government. Anti union. Anti middle class. Still are!
Reagan should have no honor. He should be ranked just behind Bush and Nixon...!!!

FAst forward to 2008...
We are in hock for trillions.
We have nothing to show for it. No national healthcare, just the destruction of the middle class. No money for schools.
And surprise... we landed in the same boat Reaganomics threatened we would "if"
we had healthcare, a strong middle class, and strong support for education.

What did we gain by going down "their" anti government path???
Nothing!!! Nada!!!
Who lost out... We did. Who won out... Greed!
So here we are in 2008 on the brink of national disaster, and NOTHING to show for it.
Do you think we will learn from this? I doubt it.

We need national healthcare whatever the cost.
Because the cost will be taken anyway, in greed.
We might as well get something that will benefit everyone out of this.
And not more right wing BS, that ended up having no value in the end.
Yes.... YOU, WE were scammed!!!!

Semantic.

Some people feels that the US didn't enter the Vietnam Conflict till 1965, and other feels that the US didn't enter the Afghan/Iraq War till 2001.

Which suggests one of the main factor in US bankruptcies are wars that spans between 7-8 years.

Do you not understand capitalism? If anything the wars would be putting money into American business, not taking it out.

If you're going to go to the trouble of thinking up (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt although I'm pretty sure you probably just ripped this from someone else) such a silly thing, why not also include the original 1920s stock market crash? OMG it happened and then 17 years later we decided to stop WWII!

You sound like those idiots who try to relate numbers to events. I had a classmate in high school do a speech that dealt with that and Tupac's death. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
