I never buy cheap liquor so I don't keep an eye out for cheap vodka. However, I need some really cheap stuff so I can make vanilla extract. Besides some crazy one day a year sale, where can I reliably find cheap vodka? What store and what brand?

Thanks.

Go to a store, and look at the vodka isle. Below each bottle, there will be a little sticker with numbers on it. The one with the lowest number on it will be the cheapest, 10/10 times.

i wouldn't go for the cheapest (lowest quality) liquor if i were making vanilla extract. wouldn't a highly filtered spirit produce better results? maybe everclear or some moonshine would be good and cheap...

the cheap stuff is used for making mixed drinks, where there's no point in killing a $75 bottle of tequila on margaritas

When I was in Vladavostok, Russia, (1999) you could pick up an equivalent to a fifth of vodka for about $.80....

If you're making extract, use Everclear.

Thanks for the smart aleck replies. I wasn't asking what's the cheapest vodka I could buy in a particular store. I was asking in general. Like "Costsco tends to have handles of Kirkland Vodka for $10. It's the cheapest I've found" is a useful answer.

Everclear would be good but I don't have a Beverages and More near me. And yes, cheapest vodka is best from what I've read. The vanilla will be the dominating flavor.

Never been to a chain liquor store in my life so not sure how anyone outside of your local area could help you...
In you're in NY safe bet is Warehouse wines and liquors on Broadway @ Astor place

And to be completely serious, liquor prices vary by area and state. Without more information (where you live, what stores you have access to, what exactly you need the alcohol for, etc). If you need pure alcohol/volume, everclear is probably the best way to go. Otherwise, seriously just go to the liquor store and buy the cheapest thing you can find. Costco has great prices for decent alcohol, but it probably won't be "the cheapest".

We bought Popov before and filtered it with a Brita filter. Definitely at least decent vodka at that point.

BTW look into Kirkland (Costco) Vodka. It's pretty good.

Just buy the cheapest from any liquor store. When you're buying bottom shelf alcohol the prices will be close enough not to matter. You'll waste more in gas driving to the cheapest instead of going to the closest store.

since all you care about is the price, just go to the liquor store, pop a squat and take the cheapest plastic handle of the day on the bottom shelf in the vodka section. mccormick, popov, skol etc. all suck, all cheap. price diff will not be much, not worth worrying over

Knowing what the cheapest vodka is and where to get it is mutually exclusive to having enough money to buy a computer and post answers in threads.

You'll find your best answers by reading the labels on discarded vodka bottles in alleys in the bad parts of town.
