This card uses GDDR3, and yes it still uses 'that' R580 and not R580+, because it uses GDDR3.
The reality:
****THE R580+ IS IDENTICAL TO R580 EXCEPT FOR ACTIVATED GDDR4 SUPPORT***
R580 and R580+ offer the EXACT same perfomrance, and clock the same, etc.
R580 is in no way obselete in the Radeon line-up, atleast.
In all honesty, Radeon X1900 owners still have the fastest radeon cards, the extra 50 of X1950 is a marketing ploy since ATI ran out of suffixes to fit these into the X1900 series, and they know uninformed customers will pay for the extra 50 'Radeon brag points'.
