I thought the price for the 1070s would be around the $370 mark. Are they coming soon and the manufactures trying to stick the early guys with their $400+ models?

Well, the card's MSRP is $379. Given that reference cards from Nvidia are now 'Founder's Edition', they are priced above the MSRP. Once AIBs release the card, they tack on some extra $$$ for their cooler/PCB/features. That's one of the bigger changes this gen is that, essentially, there are no 'reference' cards available for MSRP. They are founder's edition cards which are upcharged.

So really, you'll have to wait for a competing AMD card that could potentially force NV to lower prices and/or wait till NV releases a card that will drive down the prices of current cards. Or if they slash prices for some reason.

Well I can wait. I have to imagine my 970 will be fine for BF1 at 1080.

Msrp has creeped forward this generation because Nvidia has set two msrps. A "phantom" msrp and the actual msrp (Founders Edition). As a result most OEMs repriced their $600-620 cards to $650-670 since there seems to be unlimited demand for even reference cards.

Even $400 is super rare, it's more like $420-430 to start. The $379 was a fake number for PR reasons and also to mess with AMD.

MSRP's will only go up from here. I'm sure the 1170 will probably debut at $449 / $499(FE). AIB makers will price theirs at ~$520 to start. Demand will push it to ~$550.:(

I see the prices slowly dropping already, as stock on the 1070 has leveled out. But don't expect to see aftermarket 1070 cards on the regular for $379. You'll likely have to work some discount magic here and there to hit that number.

sheesh, even the lowly 1060's are going for over $300.

Hope my 970 can hold me off until fall. :(

Nvidia should allow anyone to present proof of purchase of a 970 and then sell them a comparable quality 1070 for the same price. They should do this as a way of admitting they were wrong to screw 970 buyers the way they did and offer to reconcile by, at minimum, offering them a proper replacement for the same price. Nvidia has been treating their customers like pieces of trash.

And then that's when we buy the 1070 for a heavy discount.:) no rush here as my gtx 970 is doing fine.

But they're 2 different cards, the 1070 is much more powerful & has double the RAM. What kind of business would offer a customer a product that's essentially double the performance than the previous gen because the RAM implementation is different? (gtx 970 still has 4 gb VRAM, it's not 3.5gb. Plenty of my games show 3.9-4gb VRAM used no problem)

Everything I saw was out of stock. Well the sub $300 ones were.

Gotta be actively looking and checking to get 1060s and 1080s right now. If you wait till after work to go hunting, chances are theres hundreds of people doing the same. I bought a 1080 at 3 am from Newegg...

If you're in the US, Jet with their Shop10 coupon has yielded roughly $375 or so 1070's for weeks...

Jet.com is where it's at for PC stuff these days:
-Forgo free return shipping for ~$10 off
-SHOP10 for 10% off
-Use the Upromise portal for an additional 5% off
-Upromise credit card (no annual fee) for an additional 5% off
-Sallie Mae high-yield savings account for a 10% annual match on Upromise earnings when linked
-Free shipping

Using all of the above can get you a $450 GTX 1070 for about $350. I got a MSI 1070 Gaming X this way, although pricing on that card has just jumped up on Jet, so you'd probably have to go Gigabye/Zotac/ASUS/etc to get a good deal right now.

The pricing on the 1060s are weird too but I guess it's because they are in high demand. I was seeing almost $100 difference between the 3GB and 6GB models. At those prices it makes sense to just get the 1070.
