Dear Customer,

This email is to remind you to package your GA-N680SLI-DQ6 carefully before you send it in for this special program. Here are some tips for you.

Make sure the CPU socket protection lid is on in secure
Make sure the clear plastic lids are in right position and will not damage the heatsink
Include all the accessories came with the motherboard
Double box the package to prevent potential shipping damages
Gigabyte will inpect the motherboard upon receipt and make sure there is no any form of physical damage including but not limited to bent pins, scratches, oxidation, burnt, missing parts, cracks or any kind of deformation. If any sort of damage is found on the returned motherboard, the replacement will not be shipped.

We thank you for cooperating on these and appreciate your business with GIGABYTE.

Ok been some time since I posted. Posted way back when I was just starting to OC and was happy other than the bios issues and other flash ROM protection crapola.

I've been reading all the post on the rma issues and went to Gigabytes site for some parts as I needed another SATA cable and I wanted to stay with same colors etc. Anyhow adding a new 1TB drive to save all my stuff to possibly RMA my board, but as of now I do not know as like all of you I bought this board for the advertised Intel CPU support that never materialized, but I also bought because of the amount of SATA ports and SLI.

Well all of the options so far do not meet my needs. SLI, 1,333Mhz fsb, Quad core support as in 45nm chips, minimum 8 sata ports. No board that has been listed meets my needs or the original reason I bought this board. Can I say that I use all of this now no, but I have been slowly upgrading as I have went along and Have in my opinion a very decent set-up, but now my end goal of a system has been stifled due to false advertising and poor response to an issue that was known about. Do you guys all remember when all of a sudden there were no boards to be found about a month after release and there were post stating over whelming sells. Do we really believe that know as I think they stopped shipment on all of these boards due to the know advertising and board issues. Then the bean counters stepped in said continue as even if we're sued we will still be in the black, but if you stop we will be in the red due to already spent capital and resources in development and manufacturing of this board....all a simple risk analizas and we the end consumer losses and the corprate machine wins again. Also there are post blaming NVIDIA? Why when GB used the basic NVIDIA design, but did not follow step by step. GB developed there own design based on the NVIDIA chip set unlike the other 680i MB companies. Take a look at NVIDIA?s site GB is listed no where as a 680I MB manufacture.

Getting back to why I posted; I'm curious on what I found this looking for a SATA cable:
GA-N680SLI-DQ6 (rev. 2.0)

Other version: rev. 1.0

NVIDIA® nForce® 680i SLI MCP Chipset
Supports Intel Core? 2 Quad/ Core? 2 Duo processors
Dual Channel DDR2 800 for outstanding system performance
Ultimate graphics performance with 3 PCI-E x16 interface
Integrated SATA 3Gb/s with RAID function
Features high speed Gigabit Ethernet and IEEE1394
Integrated 8-Channel High Definition audio
Quad BIOS solution for Multiple protection
Unique cooling design with Crazy Cool and Silent-Pipe
Ultra durable motherboard with all solid capacitor design

Replacement Model : GA-N650SLI-DS4L (rev. 1.0) ::shocked:

Both Rev 1 and Rev 2 680i boards state this, how can this be a replacment and to top is of look at this:
GA-N650SLI-DS4L (rev. 1.0)

NVIDIA® nForce 650i SLI chipset
Supports Intel Core 2 multi-core processors with FSB1333
DDR2 800 for outstanding system performance
Ultimate graphics performance with dual PCI-E x16 interface with NVIDIA SLI support
Integrated SATA 3Gb/s with RAID function
Features high speed Gigabit Ethernet
Integrated 8-Channel High Definition audio
Ultra durable motherboard with all solid capacitor design

You see there in print FSB1333 multi-core support, then you actually go to the CPU support list and it shows this:
Intel Core? 2 Extreme QX9770(3.2GHz,12 MB) 1600 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Extreme QX9650(3.0GHz,12MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Quad Q9550(2.83GHz,12MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Quad Q9450(2.66GHz,12MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Quad Q9300(2.50GHz,6MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Duo E8500(3.16GHz,6MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Duo E8400(3GHz,6MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Duo E8200(2.66GHz,6MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Duo E8190(2.66GHz,6MB) 1333 N/A
Intel Core? 2 Extreme QX6850(3.0GHz,8MB) 1333 N/A

Yeah all 1,333 MHz chips are unsupported. This company is a complete joke and I hope this issue spreads like wild fire and kills GB reputation. Ads I for one will move to XFX or Asus and if any component has a GB logo or any reference to them my dollars will not leave my pocket for it. When I decide what board I'm going to go with next I'm seriously thinking about burning this board to the ground and posting on a well know video site!!!

And to think I recommended this board to so many people early on, man won?t do that again.

Apologize for the long post should post more often so there not as long.

What if I do not have the original box with me (since I moved out to college) or all the original cables? What shipping precautions would be considered proper? I'm thinking lots of bubble wrap and foam peanuts?

Hello Mr Curr,

I believe that no one can give us an exact timeline as there 're too many factors involved and not all of them are controlled by GB. I have a feeling that GB wants to end this right here and now, in fact I believe that they will do their best to do so but regardless of how fast GB will move waiting times will still vary. For example it won't come as a surprise if times vary across different regions. I expect that someone in the states will have to wait a bit less than us here in euroland.

Hello Mr KillerG,

This is nothing new. Kaptdeath was the first to notice this back in December (his post on page 90) and I had a look at this myself in February (my post on page 98). So far I haven't heard of anyone getting a GA-N650SLI-DS4L as a replacement for the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 and as far as I know this ?Replacement Model : GA-N650SLI-DS4L (rev. 1.0)? note is present at GB's US site only. No one knows what this means but since GB is offering the GA-X48-DQ6 as a replacement it's more likely that this is some kind of a mistake.

As for your comment that no board that has been listed meets your needs you are not the only one in this situation. I can say the exact same thing and if you take a look at the rigs of some of the guys here, including mine, you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about. I know that if the board could deliver on the 1333 Extreme Quads I wouldn't be looking for a replacement board right now and neither a lot of the guys here. Unfortunately for all of us the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 fell sort of the target and there is no other board in the market, from GB or other, that has the same features.

The bottom line is that life isn't fair and any replacement can only work for some of us, not for all of us.

Hello Blazer7,

Apologize for the repeat, but the post is 114 pages long now?..I have read most of them, but missed that one.

A question to you all, has anyone of you actually filed a complaint with FTC, I will be doing this tonight or tomorrow and have used before with decent results. Also, file with your own state attorney general consumer protect as well.

I can not believe this company still has the balls to still be advertising false claims. Bottom line look it up and what they have done is a clear case of bait and switch or false advertising in general. File a complaint and if we all do the results will be much more meaningful. As normal CS from decent companies in a situation like this will refund in full if they can not meet what the consumer originally thought they were getting per the companies advertised claims. Most of the posts have been about waiting for what GB is willing to do. Well I think we have all waited long enough and need to move this to bigger guns. I for one will not accept anything less than what I believed I was purchasing. The power is ours in this case not theirs we just have to use the right avenue and even though it feels good to post this entire thread means nothing to GB as it legally has no bearing, but once contacted by the FTC or an attorney generals office they have to respond legally to the consumer complaints.

Second thought here is if all are willing we can compile a letter with all the facts to pass around until all are happy and then we can each use to file an individual complaint with FTC and local state attorney generals office. If we continue to wait for GB we are all going to be with out what we all thought we were purchasing or compromise, because we think that?s all we can do. They have not presented a feasible solution to the consumer of this product period. All that are RMA?ing are compromising because they are feed-up well that?s what they are hoping for. I will assure you their lawyers are fully aware of this situation and have already prepared responses in the effect that Intel was the issue NVIDIA was the issue etc. DOES NOT MATTER GB is the final seller of the product and bears all responsibility of there claims. If it was NVIDIA or Intel that is between those parties not the consumer that was blatantly lied to and unbelievable still is.

If there are no takers I will post the responses from both FTC and Washington State AGO once I receive.

Sirs,

I sent an e-mail to Leo about the RMA policy on this.....ah board. I have a pair of 8800gt's in SLI that I would like to continue using that way. I think most folks are going the X48 route, but I hope that some kind of offer will be made on the 790 (gulp). I will post what I find out. My machine just "blue screened" again. I am still having problems with the Jmicron stuff. (Beyond the fact I have a system I cannot upgrade and is best described as a dead end, unstable, unsupported system.)

I hope Gigabyte come through for me, like they have some of you guys.

Hi Guys,

I want to repeat you don't need the ship in the original packaging. It is only highly recommended that you do so so it doesn't get damaged in shipping. If you don't have the original packaging, please send in a box and packing material that will protect the board, especially the heatpipes from getting damaged.

Since we are picking up the shipping costs, wait to send your board until you receive the shipping label.

The GIGABYTE USA site mentioning "Replacement Model : GA-N650SLI-DS4L (rev. 1.0)? is incorrect. It is being changed.

As Mr. Blazer7 mentioned, I can't give an exact timeframe. RMA has been instructed to treat this case as priority, so turnaround time will be fast. Each of you should receive a claim number that you can use to find out the status on your replacement.

@ Mr. KillerG
Have you talked to the contact window I provided you? They might be able to help you out. As I mentioned earlier, there is a rework we can do on your board that will allow support for QX6850, so you can have all the support that was promised to you. We also offer a free upgrade program as well.

Sorry you feel we intentionally misled you regarding this situation. We honestly thought the board would have support once the QX6850 reached the market as was told to us by the vendor. But since we can't predict with 100% accuracy future support for products that aren't available on the market yet, we mention on the colorbox and website that specifications might change and to check out the CPU support list or ask your dealer to make sure. We don't just put this on the box as a cop out or to legally cover us. We do it because technologies change so quickly, even a year after a board is launched. Since it takes time to change packaging box content, the most updated information is usually on the website or with the dealer you are buying the board from.

@ Mr. Kaptdeath,

Officially, the 790 is not an option since the board is still in development and won't be available for several months yet.

Colin,

I waited months for the 680 board. If I can get something that works as advertised. (And has support and stability.) I can wait.

Mr. GigabyteColin,

Appreciate the response, but what I hear you saying is the consumer is the genie pig for misrepresentation of your product. I have been in technical sales and am an engineer by trade and statements made during contract prior or during sale are binding. You state and GB continues to state the intention was wording for the QX6850. Well as I read my manual and my box I find nothing to that effect. The business I'm in if we misrepresent or have a quality issue with our product we pull the product prior to release if found and if found after release all product is returned PERIOD and customers are maid right and at no time do we ever attempt to make any process painful for the end customer as they are our live blood.

So per the web, the box, the magazine articles, the specification sheet from vendor purchased and GB's specifications in manual and what was once on the web when most of us purchased:
Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core / Core 2 Quad /
Intel Core 2 Extreme duel-core / Core 2 Duo /
And then list older 775 chipset support

So first:
Intel Core 2 Extreme quad core:
Per GB's PCU support list QX6850 is not supported and is only one of the two chips under 1333Mhz.

Second:
Core 2 Quad:
Not even one of the three chips is supported

Third:
Core 2 Extreme duel-core
Does not exist per Intel chip list

Fourth:
Core 2 Duo
Four of the eight chips are supported

So the way I read this and believe the FTC will also your responses to the consumer is to hand pick what the intent of the original advertisement stated and the consumer must bear the burden to figure out what your intent was. So as I read what is in black and white and was TOUTED and pushed in our face on the web, box and manual. Gigabyte statements on processors as in multiple support if you read that as a single processor support well I guess Joe consumer can't trust anything. You also state some disclaimer, well I've looked all over my box all through my manual and in no location can I find an * or some other indication that per you was stated as a disclaimer of changing technology.

Gigabyte was clearly stating as many bang wiz items on the board to hook the consumer (I for one) and ring the $$$'s in as possible. Well whomever is head of your marketing department should be fired and if I had stock in your company (thank god I don't) I would want heads to be rolling. Your company stated it, now it?s time to make the consumer right.

So here's what made me purchase the board.
Intel Core 2 Extreme quad Core support as all knew the 45nm chips were just around the corner and was the icing on the other rocking item on this board
6x & 4x for a total of 10 sata storage support
SLI
8GB memory support
All of the PCI slots
Internal connectors.

God I remember like it was yesterday how excited I was about this board. "Man I won't need another board for years and years and I don't think I could ever max out what this board is capable of!!!" Well like they say if its sounds too good to be true.......

So you have listed no true replacement options on this thread or have released any press release or made contact to vendors/customers that purchased this board a replacement that meets all the options of the original GB 680i rev.1 or rev.2 boards.
You do that and I will contact customer service for replacement as I will not down grade for the money I spent nor will I sacrifice the options that originally made me purchase this board.

Update:
So far TT site and this site links have been forwarded to a class action attorney and my FTC letter is in edit and will be sent by COB tomorrow. I also sent Mr. Tweak a personal e-mail about the lovely censorship on his site about this issue. It is his site and he can do what he desires, but does not mean there will be no ill effects to censoring the end consumer.
If I get kicked off or post removed I have all post saved from both sites and if things progress all information can be compiled as evidence including old GB web site information that has been changed to date.
Well I guess I didn?t stat that did I. If you all take a look due to my earlier post GB has removed the 650i replacement information AND removed the 1333fsb reference within hours of my post. If you think actions like that aren?t happening because they know they are in the wrong well I'm not sure what else it would be.
Post once I have responses back from attorneys and FTC.
P.S. Flam me all you want about this; you may think I should just trade for what GB is willing to give and all the BS about well tech changes, its Intel?s fault, its NVIDIA?s fault. Don?t care it is GB?s fault for not making it right for the consumer. Can anyone truly tell me when you bought the board the boards being offered to you now are even close or were what you wanted? If the answer is no be patent something will come of this. Only two options as I see it. A full refund as in cash in hand or a board that meets or exceeds the original advertised specification of the board we clamored over. Do yourself a favor or it may not be a favor; go back and read the reviews of this board read some of your original post about this board and tell me you got what you paid for per what was advertised and touted in all of the magazines and web articles.

Hello Mr KillerG,

In general you are right. The 1333 support was the main reason, but not the only one, why many of us went over the edge here and over at the TT forums. However the disclaimer Colin is talking about does exist. It is written on the box as you can see in the 3rd post on this page.

I understand why you?re upset as I?m also upset and neither I nor anyone else can blame you for taking this one step further. As I?ve mentioned in my previous post I would really love to have the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 performing as advertised but as you?ve pointed out, in the end, none of us got what we?ve paid for.

Still it is very good to see that GB has acknowledged this and come up with a replacement program that will satisfy many of the guys here. I hope that the 790 will be offered as a replacement for our board also as this will provide a solution for the guys that do use or plan on using SLI.

As for the flaming thing, nobody is gonna flame on you because you?re doing what your conscience dictates. Good luck with this and keep us posted.

KillerG -

I totally understand KillerG's point and tend to agree with him actually. The trade for the GA-X48-DQ6 is not a perfect match as far as options and will not work for everyone. I'm willing to do with less since there is no other option but others may wish to not settle. I don't see why he woudl get flamed, I say keep fighting if you aren't happy with the offer!
There are plenty of reasons as well as proof listed on these pages!

Sent my RMA in today. Had to buy my own shipping lable because you cannot add insurance to the existing lable Gigabyte provides you with. So long story short I am down 15 bucks for shipping and $500 insurance thru UPS. ALL fingers crossed....

I have been trying to call Leo the last two days but he has been out. Is there anyone else in the USA who can get this going? As I have said, for me the X48 will work for my plans, since I have not planned on using SLI on this system at least. However quad core support is what I had been planning on doing since this is for a media server which will be encoding/decoding and editing high def video streams (with some video enhancements occurring on the fly for output video).

Good afternoon all!
A quote from Mr. Beagle "the plot thickens", I can understand Mr. killer G. point of view in fact I respect it. As we still haven't gotten anything but a bios update, even then. A reworked mother board, isn't what I'd call appealing either. And the X48DQ6 isn't close in price to that witch we paid for this DIW, EOL, motherboard. So yeah if anything you have earned your place here also.
As was stated just yesterday, guy said he will have to remove his hard drives and then will have to reformat them. Also being with out the computer too, I had a friend call me on mine as I told him it was for sale. Now I have to build one for him too.
Plus my time is worth something to me, not anybody else but to me YES IT IS. so really what we have so far is a company taking back there failed product witch is pretty smart in that respect as there will be no evidence left now.
Mean while I sit and wait to see if my board will pass the testing they have for it, rofl and then if they feel compelled to do the right thing I may get back a board of lesser value then what I first purchased? Guess I should be thankful but I'm not............

@ Mr. Kell, I have chucks e-mail it is:gbtrma@gigabyte-usa.com
Then just write on it :Attention chuck in the subject along with the "board GA-N680SLI-DQ6".
Think that will get his attention.

Just another post card from the edge........
Regards all!

I think that many of us would be willing to wait the couple months for an official commitment to a trade in for the 790i by Gigabyte.

Plus, last I heard, the 790i was at CeBIT, so it can't be too far off:

Looked at the 790i specs on newegg:
I could not live with only 6x sata maybe eight, but not six! the 790i board after two years might just meet the specs of the 680i board we purchased x enough sata support. So if we all paid the R&D for the 790i board I think one should be in the mail to each and every one of the purchasers of the 680i board with at least a low grade 1 GB stick of ram so no one would have any out of pocket expense. Well not sure what all your times worth, but I will assure you I have thousands of dollars of hours messing with all the issues with this board, but GB does not care as we again are the test bed for their so called end product.

Put this another way, how would you feel if you bought a car and the wheels fell off, won't start ohh and every few moths a new motor (BIOS) needs to be installed cuz the old one has bugs or parts that are wearing prematurely. You Would not tolerate this would you (well maybe your first car you did...lol) How can GB site back and offer less expensive board with less options and expect us all to grin. Put up what?s right not what is unfair to the consumer. As I stated to the attorney, when was the last time a car was EOL in the first year?.can you so YUGO, but even that lasted longer than this board LMAO!

Work is running over so should get letter out to FTC by late tonight. out!

Update:

Complaints have been filed with both the FTC and the AGO of my state. The great thing is my state is one of the most aggressive when it comes to electronics and software due to so many tech companies in the area.
I also forwarded all information to a much larger law firm that deals in consumer protection and false advertising and misrepresentation/manipulation of consumers.

We shall see what happens next?

Hey dude, legal threats don't really help those of us who want this to proceed amicably. Legal threats tend to get the lawyers involved who tend to get everybody else involved to shut up, which means we get screwed, and we might not be in as trigger-happy states as you are. Plus this is the wrong place to be threatening people. This forum was intended for people to help each other out, and I think these legal threats are completely counter to that.

We've seen a good and decent effort for Gigabyte to address our concerns, and we should take that to its conclusion. If you want to go through the courts, you should do it with your lawyer, and not with us.
