Computor wasnt behving yesterday (some analogy about poor workers and thier tools springs to mind) so i didn't succeed in getting my SLI working.

But a glimmer of joy arrived in the post today in the form of 4G of Crucial 8500.

plugged in 2 sticks @800, OK

Plugged in 4 sticks, light came on, the fan did a whirl, then it shutdown. Didn't even post.

plugged in 3 sticks, all worked

Out of curiosity i set them to 1066mhz, light came on, the fan did a whirl, then it shutdown. Didn't even post.

Pull one stick out, so left with 2, works OK.

All sticks seem to work and all slots seem to work as well as the 1+3,and 2+4 dual channel pairs.

Figure I don't have time to faf about as my computer is to work on. Not be the work if, you know what I mean. But I can't resist taking one more stab at the SLI problem.

I decide I'll continue with 3 sticks @800mhz, but when I uninstall/reinstall forceware drivers the comp crashes and wont restart till I remove a memory stick.

So now i'm back to 2G RAM, and slot 2+4 won't work in Dual Channel.

However i got my SLI running.

i suppose now, a memory test would be the next step, but i'm not sure what to use or what i'm looking for. Will the windows mem test show me what i need?

Mr PafetikBezerka,

Windows memtest will report errors but this utility cannot be your 1st choice for checking your memory. If your mem returns errors you don?t wanna be running windows as there is a chance that your OS may crash beyond repair. What you should do is use Memtest86+ V1.70 instead. Create a floppy and boot from it. Memtest will take over from there.

You should also state your mobo?s rev and BIOS ver as there are quite a few folks in this thread that have the same mem you do and they may be able to help you with the BIOS settings.

Mr. PafetikBezerka

If you haven't done so yet download from MS the 64 bit version of this

KB 929777

it wouldn't work (4 gig mem) for me either until I installed that update.

No word yet on Penryn compatibility, that holds true for the EVGA boards also, the BIOS work is a lot more than expected at this point. We do have Penryn working on the Striker Extreme board, just cannot get past 350FSB with it before problems arise.

After working a few hrs this morning my computer made me remove another stick before it would start, So not satisfied with just 1G RAM I threw in some old stuff ,, 2x 1G@667 and 2x 512@533 no prob, so it seems to be a prob with the crucial sticks or a setting, I only hope this isn't a problem with the board. The memory test will have to wait till I've cleared some of my real work.

@ Mr raisinjack

Thanks for the reply though it made no difference. Odly though, it once again went through the previous cascading effect,

4 sticks, no go
3 sticks, ok untill i restart
and so on..

Also, RE Nvidia Controll Panel. What and where exactly, am I meant to see when I tick the box 'Show SLI Visual Indicators'.

Thanks Gary !

I take it that these news are not all bad. 🙂 eVGA are still claiming that their board will be compatible with penryn with only a BIOS update and MSI added 2 new Wolfdales in their cpu support list last night. The new cpus are the E8190 & the E8500 running @2.66 & 3.16 respectively. This brings the total number of penryn cpus under testing up to 7. It is good to know that everybody is busy trying to bring compatibility to the platform and since Penryn is already working on the Striker Extreme I would say that there is still hope for the rest of us here.

As for the delay with the new BIOS this is understandable up to a point considering that these are not just any cpus but the first to sport x.5 multipliers. This however, does not make up for Gigabyte?s poor support so far. It would be good to get some first hand info from Gigabyte every now and then. I wonder if that?s too much to ask.

Mr PafetikBezerka,

I suggest that you update your BIOS to the F5e or the F5f. Personally I?m using the F5e. You can find a link to it in one of Gary?s posts on page 59. Some of us had some problems with the F5f but most people had no problem at all. You can find the F5f in another of Gary?s posts on page 78.

Mr jaggerwild,

That?s great info but I fail to see where the good news are. There is no mention of the rev 1 board, no news on the rev 2 board, and eVGA officially announced that their 680 & 650 boards will only support wolfdale.

So far things are looking good for ASUS & MSI owners only, eVGA is officially dead in the water and Gigabyte is still in mute mode.

Thank you Mr Blazer 7.

Flashed main and backup bios to F5e and all looks good.

Mr PafetikBezerka,

I'm glad that the F5e works for you. Are you using all 4 Dimms @1066 ? In your signature you still mention only 2GB working.

Well if Gigabyte can't get the Rev 1 to take 45nm 1333MHz Quaddies (Yorkfields) then I will be asking for a refund or change over to an equivelent board that can at their cost.

http://img.photobucket.com/alb...gabyte680ifeatures.jpg

As can be seen - They proudly advertised the fact that this board would be able to do it and in fact as you can see - they still do. For me it was the main reason I bought the board and if it can't do it I want my money back or a replacement product that can do what I paid for. The lack of communication by Gigabyte on their website regarding this issue is disgraceful and the fact that a Gigabyte Tech has not visited this thread (or at least posted) is pathetic when you consider how many hits and contributions it has had, not to mention it is still one of the top returned search matches for GA-N608SLI-DQ6 on Google. I have sent them a polite email as I know many others here have but I am yet to receive a response - typical.

Come on Gigabyte, the CPU's are now on the market, you guys must have had them for ages now. Stop stuffing around and make the announcement.

Oh and thanks for posting earlier Gary, we do appreciate your on going efforts.

Opps forgot about the sig.

All four sticks are in, but only at 800mhz. My Corsair Dominator memory cooler hasn't arrived yet.I have had a little play though.

You mentioned a number of posts back that they should be able to run linked 1:1 with the CPU, I've not done any OC'ing before and would like to be fairly sure of what settings I should use. So far all I've realy done is enable the memory SLI wich is a quick and easy way to OC the memory, except it removes the linking option.

First Happy Thanks Giving to everyone here!!
Mr Blazer,
Sorry thought it would be helping, and understand why it hasn't.....

On another note if anybody can offer some advice to me, few weeks back was over clocking. Seems to be doing all right mostly, and I'm still a noob in this respect I know. I got my CPU up to about 450X8 and it would boot but then would be very unstable also, I had raised the CPU one or two bumps over the 1.367 stock voltage, plus other voltages that i've read in this thread. So after a reboot all was normal brought the FSB down to 400X8, but then I noticed that when it flashes the info right before it says"verifying DMI POOL" it shows my SM BUS as not have an IRQ or NA in the column?
I've tried to remove and replace mainboard drivers, I actually got it fixed but then was clocking again and it came back. Upon redoing the MB drivers the NA is still there in the SM BUS slot for IRQ. I know in the bios it should be auto loading or assigning the IRQ"S as I've seen the option, maybe I'll try toggling it to see if this helps it too. Currently the systems working fine, but just worried it not.
So you know I have the original Bios FA still as I read most see no Improvement with the beta bios, if this helps.
Thank you in advance, again Happy Holidays to you all and your......

Mr jaggerwild,

No need to be sorry. That was a good piece of info you?ve posted and it did help a lot as it does shed some more light on our situation. It just wasn?t what we?ve been hoping for.

I use a G11,and vista 64. Basicaly the same, minus the LCD screen. Have had the occasional dead Esc key and dead Enter key. The num pad Enter kept working however.

I'm pretty sure its a Vista 64 issue in combo with x86 programs, but I haven't figured out at exactly which point the problem occurs yet. Restart always fixes it.

Mr rt182,

I've been using Logitech's G15 for more than 2 years now but my experience with it is limited to winXP only. There are 2 versions of the G15 out there and both of them support Vista. If you 're having problems with the driver I suggest that you download the latest from Logitech's site.

Old G15 (blue backlight) - ver 1.04.151 - 4/25/2007 : http://logitech-louk.navisite.net/web/ftp/pub/techsupport/keyboards/g15/lgks104_x64.exe

New G15 (amber backlight) - ver 2.00.171 - 10/23/2007 : http://logitech-louk.navisite.net/web/ftp/pub/techsupport/keyboards/g15/lgps200_x64.exe

yeh im looking at the new version G 15 the one with the display that is just always open lol thanx for the advice
looks like a new keyboard for me = D
thanx again

Both versions have their positive and negative points. I like the softer blue light + the 18x3 programmable keys of the old and the rigit display and slim style of the new. If they could only produce one that had it all..... 🙂

Still either one is top choice.

It's all about the new Razer Lycosa Keyboard and Razer Lachesis Mouse. Both have unmatched specs. Very cool looking too. I already got the Lachesis and it is amazing mouse. My Lycosa is in the mail.

Good Morning Everyone.

Well, the sad news is that I had to finally RMA my N680i board back to Newegg on account of a totally failed PCIx slot - very strange indeed. Since there are NO replacement Gigabyte N680i boards to be had, that meant that Newegg could only refund my $. I must say that I am truly impressed by the fact that Newegg stood by their 1 year replacement warranty, and since they couldn't replace the board, they gave me a full refund - that is first-class customer service in my view!

So, although I will not have the N680i board to play with any more, and thus no ability to try new ideas, etc with all of you, I would be remiss if I didn't say how much I really enjoyed the interaction with all of you on this Thread. I couldn't have ever imagined how much posting would have occurred on this topic when I started this Thread almost a year ago - WOW! However, I'll stop back from time to time and see how all of you are doing with your N680i board issues and solutions.

In closing, I'd also like to thank each one of you for your individual and collective contributions to this Thread. It is also quite remarkable that the high level of civility among and between contributing posters has been maintained, even in some difficult times. That civility, as had been noted by more than one poster, has been a sterling hallmark of this Thread, and I would ask each one of you to help maintain that positive level of discourse. I also want to especially thank our Patron Saint, Mr. Gary Key, for all his great stewardship over these many months of struggle and intrigue. I think we will ALL agree that we could not have progressed this far without Mr. Gary. He's truly a keeper, and we're damn glad to have him!

Best regards to everyone. Stop over at the GA-X38-DQ6 Thread that I started recently to say hello or post a question. Again, many, many thanks to everyone, it was a GREAT ride! TheBeagle 😀

*** Just so you aren?t left in the dark about mobo support, we?ll leave you with a nice bit of skillz from Gary Key at Anandtech ? it?s a month or so old, but it?s got what you need to know about getting Penryn/Yorkfield up and running on your mobo. µ ***
