The truth hurts, nobody wants a 6990, unless it carries a warranty for a untested bios mode.
590 is a great card. The 6990 is as well. I do think the 590 has a bit more going on for it though this round as far as direct comparisons go. But, that isn't what this thread is about. 590's are selling pretty well considering they are top dollar items.
Do either of you have sales figures or are you just stating your unsubstantiated opinions? I would think you would have actual sales numbers to honestly make such claims.

I'll just say that I'm giving you my unsubstantiated opinion then.
I'm just assuming that since they are regularly coming into and going out of stock daily, I'd think they are at least moving some 590's. You can speculate (probably) that that means 1 sale per day, or at least could, but at the end of the day, I honestly don't care.

Let's propose a new rule for VC&G. If you want to talk about a certain card you must provide proof of ownership or intent to buy one. Otherwise you get reprimanded and subsequently banned for daring talk about something you don't own or plan to own.

Jesus this place would be dead if that rule went into affect. I wonder how we'd handle speculation on future unannounced products - some of our members created a bunch of SKUs haha.

As far as the GTX 590 goes, if I had the money I'd get the GF one. She wouldn't OC or OV it so I'd be sure it wouldn't explode. But, then again I wouldn't be too sure it wouldn't either haha.

Lol! Agree. Invoices from reputable sellers only. If you plan on a purchase you'll need proof that you can afford one of said card. If you want to discuss 590 sli you'll need to verify you have $1500 for the Evga kit.:thumbsup::D

What if, and this is just a theory:
What if the 590s are always out of stock, because when newegg gets 100 units they already have 90 of those spoken for by RMA department?

And what if aliens abducted them all for use on a super-secret death weapon meant to destroy Earth!

What-ifs are fun!

That explains why I saw alien looking shuttle crash and burn last night...

kinda like that radeon 6450

as Virge said, it's typical of any high end sandwich card. Did 5970 ever really stay in stock over its entire life? Quite probably this has been exacerbated by attempts to clean up the oft-discussed issues with the card as well, leading to a nearly perfect storm of extremely low availability.

Are you sure it just isn't NV being the reason the volume is low ? Since there are 6 "6990" cards in stock.:\

Maybe they are selling all they can make. I check Newegg each and every morning for GPU prices. And to be quite honest, I haven't seen a 590 in stock for some time now.

Maybe there has been a recall that has been silent, then shortly, the market may be flooded with them. Time will tell.

Few weeks back, I almost got to grab a GTX295 for $189 on Newegg. But added to cart, and was out of stock. But you can bet your butt, if it had been there, at that price, it would have been all mine.

That isn't really that great of a deal on that card. It's ~ 10% faster than 5870, but the best deal I've seen for 5870 is about $20 cheaper. Plus, 5870 is dx11, can still be xfired, is single card, newer generation, has better scaling in a multi-card configuration, etc etc.

Thread is not about comparing the 5870. Thread-derail is not acceptable.

No room for three or four cards. Two 590s gives 2048 cuda cores. This is for a folding machine. If we had the room we'd put four 590s in there as BOINC could not care less if they are SLI or not!

There's too much troll in this thread. D:

On a serious note does anyone know if the stock clocks present a problem with 24/7 loading (folding) with 590s?

For such intense work you'll probably be better with 4 x gtx 570. Cost will probably be ~ 15-20% lower on the 570's, and reliability will be much better.

Do we have data to suggest reliability of non over-volted 590s?

Nvidia's chief 590 PCB designer is currently pulling in all available data

I'm a nVidia fan but they dropped the ball with the poorly made GTX 590. If you want a dual-GPU card then the Radeon HD 6990 is the best route to go.

While I tend to agree somewhat, still...the 295 would have ran my backlog of games for years to come. I have approx 12 games that are DX11. And 35 are DX10. About 85 or so of my games are DX9 only.

Would have been excellent for few years. :)

Its more like....132 total games....My Post above this, is a guesstimate in percentages.

85 DX9 games
35 DX10 games
12 DX11 games

LOL @ Max Payne getting 600 FPS

The answer to the question:
"Where are all the 590s???! "

Is simply:
There is no 590

Where have I seen this before??

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2128860&highlight=580+halo+card

I believe someone in that thread said 580 was a halo card and they only made a couple. ;)

Good call. The 590 is an even softer launch than the 580 was. OOS everywhere. The 580 was a well received solid card though and had better availability than the ghost the 590 seems to be at retailors.

Perhaps the 590 being a poorly received product with many uninspiring reviews is related to this soft launch, hopefully a Pcb revision is on the way to correct its issues.

All right folks, I just invested about 2+ hrs in this thread alone cleaning it up, dealing with all the various thread-derails and various trolling efforts that were going on.

Please keep your posts on topic. This thread is not about bezel-less 3D surround/eyefinity, it is not about the 6990, and it is not about the initial 590 issues that came from the driver/bios incompatibilities.

The OP is asking you to assist them in locating a source of available 590's, he is not asking you to weigh in your opinions on why they are scarce or seemingly low in supply.
