My library allows remote access to dozens of databases using my card number (Dun & Bradstreet, Standard & Poors, Morningstar, periodical archives, many others). They have over a thousand movies to lend, ebooks, and probably the best feature of all is the reference librarian. I can email a question and stop in on my way home from work, and she has either tracked down an authoritative answer or will give me a number of quality sources to use for further research. If I want to read a book that is available in ANY library in the state (another online database), they'll get it for me free. All this, paid for by my tax dollars.
This is my secret weapon at work. I often volunteer to research something for the boss, and he's impressed with the results. I get the credit and the reference librarian usually does 90% of the work, and is genuinely happy to do it.
I have the internet... why would I go to a library except maybe if my internet went down and I had to use theirs.
It may come as a surprise that there is a great deal of information which is not available on the internet.
