When'd you get your first car?

1973 Mercury Meteor, a big assed boat. It was only running on 6 cylinders, which I was unaware of, still seemed to work fine though.

1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera SL in 2000. 2.5L i4 (throttle body injection). I kept it for a few years before getting a station wagon handed down to me. I still miss that car.

1996 - A 1984 Chevy Celebrity Station Wagon. Thus beginning my love affair with the sportswagon. Although this thing was hardly a 'sporty' wagon at all.

It had quite a few battle scars as well, it was my brothers first car and it had seen it's fair share of bumps and bruises like getting plowed into while pulling into our house, ripping the bumper off! Tack on the deer I hit with it that impacted the drivers side rear panel, the family of mice i found in the folding 'third-row' compartment and my idiot friends that who kicked it with their football cleats after practice, it was definitely 'unique' looking. Still not bad for a car that could haul the o-line home from practice, not to mention it hauled its fair share of beer.

I think it just up and died one day driving to school. I was close enough where I just walked the remaining way and picked it up some weekend and towed it straight to the junkyard.

One of these days I vow to buy another wagon a bit more sporty. Besides a van you really cant beat how practical they are. That and they can take a lot of abuse.

Word of advice: Ask your parents for a really expensive car, then go down in price.

Recommendations:
Mazda Mx5-RX8

Used Mustang GT/Modded V6 (but GTs are better--look for older generation if you want to, they're only 20bhp slower than the current [2009] GTs).
Old M3 (Highly doubtful, insurance can be beastly, but look for one).
Z3 M Coupe (Highly recommended, my friend might get this, it is practical, extremely fast, and very maneuverable).

Try and get an RX7, those things are beasts.

Learn manual, it gets you props. Unless you're female, in which case I'd still say, learn manual, it's better.

As to your question, my first car was (and is) a 1999 Mustang, modded V6, dual exhaust, CAI, chipped (~250bhp, haven't dynoed, don't quite believe it), new tires (decent), 5-spd manual, Steeda short shifter, and soon, some Koni shocks to help with body roll. 😀

Did it have the 330 ci motor? I still love the styling of the second generation F85's.
Anywho, in 1969 I bought a 1956 Chevy bel air with a 1966 396 ci dropped in. It was a total POS but the ultimate sleeper.

Haha, that's sort of how I feel about my car. It's sort of a sleeper, but because its exhaust is nosiy, people think it's sort of fast. Depends. I beat an STi 0-60. :Q

when i was 14 i had a couple adult friends that would buy dope off me. one guy was a mechanic, one day while sipping some shroom koolaid by the pool he told me he lost his license and needed to find a bicycle. by the time i sobered up, i had given him 20 bucks and my crappy old 10 speed that i built from free parts and he gave me his dodge coronet. it wasnt as pretty as the one in the picture, but the 383 was fuckin fast. by the time i was 15.9 and got my permit, i had put a dual mani on it, 2 750 carbs and had that thing almost track ready. except for the tires, suspension and windows... it only had 3 windows in the car. paint was stock gold color, it leaned to the right and would shimmy when turning left. i never got that car registered, but i had a great time with it on straight tracks and back roads at 1am lol. at 16 my dad got my bro and i a 1970 maverick, at 17 i got my own car, a datsun 210 hatchback. it went downhill froom there, until i got my motorcycle. that was my only transpo for years until i had kids.

I'm not sure your story makes sense, but nice on getting a Dodge Coronet. That's fuckin awesome, lol!

First car was when I was 16. It was a 1970 Fury III Sedan, with the 440 engine. That thing was a tank.

My first (and current) car was a '00 Cavalier 2dr with a 2.2L I4 and 3-speed auto. Got it when I was 16. The thing is slow as molasses and looks like total ass, but it's rock solid and gets reasonably good gas mileage. It's got about 81K on the odo right now, and I plan on driving it into the ground seeing as how I won't have any money for a car for a long while.

Looks like it. :Q

Still, that 440 sound nice? 😛

1961 Pontiac Catalina. A coworker of my mom gave it to me. He said it had to have the battery jumped every time to get it started and it could barely hit 40 at top end. Put an $8 set of brushes in the generator, jumped it one more time and it hit 130 mph before I ran out of pedal. 😉 Battery charged up quite nicely too. 😀

Only setback was it ran on premium fuel and that cost 29¢ a gallon.

My Dad gave me his car back in "82 I believe. It was a big tank of a Ford Galaxy 500. Boy was that car big.

Yes it did.

My dad sold it to me. He had a 63 or 62 with an aluminum block before that, that he sold to my sister.

Got my first vehicle when I was 16. It was a 1985 Chevy Blazer. Killed it within a year doing donuts in the country club parking lot. Sold it for $350 (cost of the brand new tires I had just put on it) and replaced it with a 1992 Dodge Stealth.

In 1991 I was given my mum's 1982 Mini. Fantastic car to gain driving experience in formative years, even if it only had 42Hp.

I rolled it while driving it on a yet to be opened motorway, but as the sides were so square it just rolled onto its side and stayed there! Me and a friend pushed it back onto its wheels and towed it home. Good times!

July of 91. Got a 89 Ford F-150 I-6.

When I was 15 I had an 81 F-250 regular cab with the I-6 and the 4 speed with a granny low 1st, 2wd only. It had big old huge tires, more ground clearance than my current F150 4x4, and an appetite for batteries bigger than a digital camera on dollar store AAs (Never could track down that short), one speaker from an old desk stereo, and no gas pedal (just the arm the pedal would mount to). My dad bought it for me for $800 and later sold it to a friend for a thousand when we moved from Alaska.

I still miss that big gray thing.

I think it was around 2001 and I was 18. The car was an 87 Merkur xR4Ti. It was beat to hell and only cost $800. Didn't last long and my brother ended up dropping a 302 V8 in it. The car was cursed though and had problems galore, even caught on fire once. My second car was an 87 Toyota Supra (Non-turbo). It was a nice car and lasted me till I was out of college when I got my current 06 Mazda 3s.

Very cool. My first car was a 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo, bought back in '99.

It's still my daily driver.

2001 I think I got my first car.
1996 Mistubishi Galant -- owned it 5 years and loved it. I can't seem to keep a car longer than 2 years or so now.
