Maza RX-2 1973 (stick shift) model brand new. Only had it 1 year then it was in a wreck. My fault. Next was a 1974 Mazda RX-2 new (stick shift) that lasted about 4 years or so. Then a used 1976 Mazda Cosmo (automatic) until about 1980 when I got a new RX-7 1980 model (5 spd) That was stolen in a year, replaced it with a 1981 RX-7 (5 spd) which lasted until Mar 1985 when I crashed it. Replaced it with a 1985 RX-7GSL/SE model (5 spd) .. had that until 1993 when it was stolen with 125K on it. Got a used Grand Am 1989 with the Quad 4 motor. Kept that until about 189K miles when the tranny started (automatic) acting up. Dumped it and replaced with a brand new 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 (non supercharged / automatic) .. still have that one..

My first car was a motorcycle. A 1971 Honda CL-450 bought new with money I earned. When the weather started to turn cold, I sold it and bought a Volkswagon Kammback something or another. I don't remember what year it was or the exact model.

CL-450 the same color too!

Got a paper route when I was 11 or 12, and then started working at the A&P at 13 or 14. Saved up, saved up. Then, a few months after I was 16 in 1990, I got a 1986 Ford Mustang GT. Black, 5 speed, T-tops.

Drove it into a guard rail a couple months later, had to borrow money from my Mom to get it fixed. The transmission blew a couple months after that. Fixed it in my garage with my Dad. Drove it into some trees a year or two later, but only needed to get half of it painted. I drove a bit too fast and a bit too reckless.

In retrospect, I worked too much as a kid for a silly car. Should have been with friends and trying to get girls instead of working. I suppose I did learn a lot and grow responsible from always having a job. It was a nice car and I did have fun with it though 🙂

Later, in college, I sold it for the money and eventually got a 1979 Nissan Pulsar. Sounds crazy, but that car was more fun to drive because you could drive it like a race car yet only be doing the speed limit.

In 2007 At 18 I got a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. 5.8L V8, leather, etc. etc.. Loaded up pretty much. Me and my twin brother share it.

16 in 1999, got a '99 Ram. Quad-cab, 4x4, 5.9L v8. Didn't drive it much as I didn't learn to drive 'til I was 21, then I got an '05 G35 coupe.

I consider myself extremely blessed for all I have gotten in life, hopefully one day I can return the favor.

In 1995 I recieved a 1982 LTD for graduation from high school. Man what a hog that car was. I was lucky to get better than 10mpg. Tho gas was only $1gal so it wasnt that bad.

1985 Buick Century in 1996. I was 16. Carbureted 3.0L V6, rated at 110 hp. Light gray, w/ gray velour interior w/ faux woodgrain accents.

My grandmother bought it brand new, drove it for a bit, passed it on to my mom, who then gave it to my dad, and then I finally got it. It had been through 11 Michigan winters and had never seen a car wash or regular maintenance in its life. It showed. The check engine light had been lit (and ignored) for at least the past 4 years. There was rust everywhere, including a baseball sized hole in the rear quarter which let water into the trunk. When you slammed the doors, rust chips fell out. My friends and I once tried repeatedly opening and closing the doors to see when (if) rust chips would stop falling - we got bored and gave up after ~5 minutes. The chips never did stop coming out.

The engine finally gave out about a year later. We donated it.

1973 SAAB 99...that was 7 cars ago not counting cars my wife has owned during that time.

It was a 2 door coupe with a 4 speed manual transmission. That car was great in the winter and would go through anything mother nature could dish out. It even had heated seats.

Edit-I was 16 at the time.

I was 19 I think - my Dad got tired of driving 500 miles each way get me to/from college. He gave me his 1982 Chevy Citation with a freshly rebuilt transmission. The car was widely hailed as a typical GM POS but it was a fantastic college car - reliable, seated 5 comfortably, and with the rear seat down that hatch could hold a ton of stuff. Also with the seat down, two could sleep comfortably stretched out on road trips.

Did it have the 330 ci motor? I still love the styling of the second generation F85's.
Anywho, in 1969 I bought a 1956 Chevy bel air with a 1966 396 ci dropped in. It was a total POS but the ultimate sleeper.

In 1997, I got an '87 Ford Aerostar. I remember flooring the thing to get to 60 MPH and watching the digital speedo go 53...54...55...54... What a POS.

1980 Datsun 200SX, in 1996. I put in a quart of oil with every tank of gas 😛
The 86 200SX I got a few years later was much better.

in 97 my brother and I shared an 86' chevy S-10. We were 17 years old. Put mags and BFG AT's on it. had to replace a spark plug and a quart of oil every 300-400 miles. Damn truck, but i loved it.

At 17 years old in 2000, I got a '92 Mazda MX-3 for about $3k. My folks paid for the car but I paid for gas, insurance, and maintenance.

That car was an accident magnet. It was rear-ended twice sitting at a red light. It was side swiped once by my neighbor parked on the side of the road, and once by my mother in the driveway.

Right about the time I turned 22 I bought a 1993 Toyota Corolla DX. Used and 4 years old for <$10K. Still drive it.

when i was 14 i had a couple adult friends that would buy dope off me. one guy was a mechanic, one day while sipping some shroom koolaid by the pool he told me he lost his license and needed to find a bicycle. by the time i sobered up, i had given him 20 bucks and my crappy old 10 speed that i built from free parts and he gave me his dodge coronet. it wasnt as pretty as the one in the picture, but the 383 was fuckin fast. by the time i was 15.9 and got my permit, i had put a dual mani on it, 2 750 carbs and had that thing almost track ready. except for the tires, suspension and windows... it only had 3 windows in the car. paint was stock gold color, it leaned to the right and would shimmy when turning left. i never got that car registered, but i had a great time with it on straight tracks and back roads at 1am lol. at 16 my dad got my bro and i a 1970 maverick, at 17 i got my own car, a datsun 210 hatchback. it went downhill froom there, until i got my motorcycle. that was my only transpo for years until i had kids.

i learned how to drive * in a mid 80s pulsar! car was really easy and fun to drive. we used to play dumpster tag in alleys with it. it was a friend of mines car, stolen and retagged. 6 of us would take turns driving it, the guy that got caught by the popo in it went to yuma detention center until he was 19, then prison until he was 21. he didnt want to stop, busted a lot of stuff and when finally apprehended, had a gun on him. he was 16. ah, those were the good ole days, lol

edit: learned to drive a stick shift, i was 15 at the time.
