Some people in my other thread said i was a crappy tipper for only giving $2 on a $15 bill that i only phoned in for pickup.

What do you think?

Only case where I tip for pickup is if I sit at the bar and have drink while waiting for the food. Outback Steakhouse Curbside pickup always is a case where I not sure if a tip is appropriate, they at least are putting a little effort in coming out to the car.

Occasionally I'll tip a small amount if the food is ready when they said it would be.

But generally I don't tip in that case, no.

you should tip at the buffet to, i say 15% if they didn't annoy me, but i don't think i'll ever tip 20% for buffet. I usually tip 20% if i dine in, but i am a server myself so that might make a difference;)

I tip on pick-up about half the time. I mean *somebody* is boxing the food and making sure everything is in order...

No tip for pickup usually.
20% for good service from a female server.
15% for good service from a male server.

Hotel room usually $2 per day if inexpensive hotel/motel.

I think most people don't realize that people at takeout counters do just as much work to get your food to you as servers do. At least I did when I worked at the Cheesecake Factory. Place order / expedite order (servers RARELY expo their orders) / verify order 3x because stupid kitchen crew can't get anything right / package order / get bread, condiments, and drinks (usually done by bussers)... all this while ALSO dealing with the 10 guests still waiting in line to place and pick up other orders.

And you say there's no reason to tip? Fsck you, that's why you get stale bread and I "forget" your sauces. Jerk. ;) :p

I didn't ever actually intentionally sabotage orders, but I *did* hook up the regulars/good tippers because they made my job worthwhile.

The worst is corporate orders because first they have an ungodly amount of items, they want them individually labeled (they INSIST on it..) and after I get together this $500 order, they send some stupid flunky with no knowledge of the order OR basic English who wouldn't know what a tip is if it bit him in the eye. Come ON, you have a corporate card. It's not YOUR money, jerk.

you tip when someone waits on you, helps you, or serves you, not when you go in to pick up the food urself...

heck no. if im there for pickup the reason im picking it up is i dont want to pay a tip. There is no reason to pay a tip.

i always expected my order to correct and complete... that's like a given .... the main reason i tip is to show appreciation for them coming by and filling up my glass with water every once in a while, and for actually carrying the food to me. i do it because they give a little extra, not for doing their job in the first place.

btw i am a very generous tipper, which is even more impressive if you knew how much i make (not much). i just don't like the notion of tipping someone for doing their job... i don't get tipped for doing my job.

but i understand hooking people up... i would do a better job for the weird guy that actually did tip me haha.
