It's safer if you do, but you run the risk of jackasses in the back speeding up to not let you in.

If you don't, you usually get in, cutting people off in the process. You run the risk of them rear ending you.

So do you use your signal in these situations?

I've determined that Rolomather is asian, based on his internal debate over whether or not to use his turn signal in what to most people, is an obviously proper situation.

:hmm:

i always use a signal.

One of my biggest peeves is if they dont use a signal.

If they use a signal i 90% of the time let them in.
If they dont use a signal, im hugging the bumper on the car in front of me.

I even got into a fight with a person because of that.
Why cant people just fin learn to use the dayam signal.

Yes I do...usually someone will let me in eventually.

well sir, if that avatar is your work car, then by all means cut me off.

Id rather have u in front of me then behind me.

Always, its a natural reflex. Also if you were ever in an accident resulting from a lane change one of the things they will ask if your signal was on.

Anyone who doesn't use a signal will not get in front of me, period. If they have to hit me, it's their own fault and they're paying every dime of my repairs. Fuck, I'm generally a well-mannered driver, but people weaving in and out of traffic because they're too fucking lazy to reach their left middle finger 3 inches from the wheel to turn on their signal get NO respect from me.

Of course, there's no better way. Trying to butt or sneak in is ugly. Most people will let you if you're polite.

Would it be your fault if they merge and you bump into their rear?

My understanding is that it would be your fault 95% of the time you rear end somebody even if they cut you off.

Insurance adjusters chime in.

Well, I guess you don't drive on I880. People who signal seem to be the exception. Being a dick and refusing to let people ahead of you who don't signal is only going to come back and bite you. Sooner or later it will actually kill you. Lighten up.

Here in the north side of ATL I do and they usually let me, sure there can be a-holes that don't but not nearly as bad as they were as a whole in Miami. There I'd just cut in since 90% of the time they'd speed up if you did signal prior.

Anyone here ever been to puerto rico? You can tell who is a tourist because they are the only ones who use turn signals. They might as well not even paint the lines on the highway either.

Not only will they not get out of the way of police/ambulances (with their sirens on) but they will actually box them out from getting on the highway.

I'm not making this shit up either, I've seen it happening, lol.

depends on conditions and state.

Because the person merging into the lane is always at fault unless that lane is ending.

Not an INS person, but i know enough lawyers in PI.

Lighten up Francis. What's the skin off your nose if someone changes lanes without signaling? What are you? A cop? Fuck, cops don't even pull people over for that here.

Don't be such a douchebag.

I always signal unless there is no one around, and even then I usually signal most of the time.

My experience with the OP's question has been that people will generally let a gap open up for you. Sure, you might find a few assholes who will ride the ass of the person in front of them to block you from getting in, but someone will eventually let you in.

It's just a test of wills. I just drive closer and closer to people who refuse to let me in if it's a fair merge, IE I didn't pass anyone and just need to change lanes/merge, and have my signal on. If you want to fight for the spot I'll find out how comfortable you are with me driving 5-4-3-2-1 inches away. I'll stick to a fair spot until the end of the merge and if the wall forces me over so be it. If our speeds are matched and it's a highway merge I fail to see the problem.

Live in baltimore area.

you see thats the thing.. if u signal.. i dont think theres a lot of people that wouldnt let u come in.

Especially if its near an intersection for you to get into the left turn lane.

Its people who just dont give a dayam, and almost end up side swiping you, that pisses us off.

I intentionally leave spaces infront of me over a car length long to let people go in. So far, it seems to have worked. In grid lock and regular driving, asshats will swerve infront without signaling.

I always signal, give it a few seconds, then slowly drift over. Unfortunately, if there's another lane to the right of where I want to move, other cars will also try moving into it at the same time.

I'm from NW WA and I visited PR once... fucking INSANE. I couldn't believe how people drove there. SO GLAD I didn't have to drive. SO GLAD.
