I always signal. And unlike most people, I actually put on my signal before I start moving over.

I have heard that in the Baltimore/DC area, though, you can't put on your signal because everyone will cut you off intentionally if you do. Anyone care to confirm?

I live in the nova/dc area and even on 395 or the beltway, I find that if you use your blinker and be a reasonable driver, people will let you over. Besides, since everyone is only going like 5mph, it is not a big deal to let someone merge in front of you haha.

The thing that upsets me are the people merge at the last possible, second, causing everyone in the non-exiting lanes to have to slam on their brakes behind them.

Found the root of the traffic congestion. Everyone needs to stop slamming on their brakes at 5mph.

In Seattle, the drivers are all little pansies and they will let you in, even if they act like they're going to close the gap. So I signal and pretty much get my way.

After 30 years I'm still amazed at how effective using a turn signal is for getting into a crowded lane even here on the east coast. I was one of those pansies in Seattle until 2003. Spent 2 years in Texas, driving rush hour in Houston made me a much better driver.

With all the BS that happens on the road it makes me wonder why anyone would think driving a nice car is a good idea.

Always signal before making a lane change or attempting to. Damn son, everybody know that.
