I am also waiting to buy a desktop/tower mac when the 970s come out. My laptop is still plenty fast, but I would also like a desktop system.

And hopefully 10.3 Panther has some nice new features, though I'm not really sure what they could improve on 10.2 Jaguar.

This might be a stupid question, but is there PowerPoint software for the mac? Some of my classes had notes in PowerPoint and that would suck if she had to go to a computer lab to print off notes.

Yes, MS Office is availible for the Mac(It has Word, Excel, PP, and the email client Enterage(sp?)). Keynote can also import PP stuff.

Try finding a GOOD irc client that's free and works as good as Mirc for the mac.

When you're done with that find a browser as compatible as IE6+ for windows xp for os x,

Mozilla is quite standards compliant and works on OS X.

Transmit. Its *freeware* I believe, and does sFTP.

after that grab a newsgroup reader.

Apple periodically releases refreshes of their products(such as the iBooks last month), which a lot of people tend to call new models, even though the term really is only proper when Apple does something like release a new G4 tower design(the MDD Power Mac replacing the Quicksilver Power Mac). That said, Apple keeps a tight lip, so there's no really good guess.

There's a million little things that are annoying as hell about the mac.

For example every time i click to download something it opens a damn little window that i have to click to close and there's no way to disable it.

The web browsers have issues with some java, shockwave, flash and even the anandtech homepage and major problems with sites like that site some aters play monopoly on. Cant play video embedded in a lot of webpages.

The media players available have a lot of issues.

In my opinion the mail program sucks.

There's a bunch of other little things that piss me the hell off, just cant think of them right now.

Now, if you continued reading the thread you would have noticed that I said a very similar thing about Mac fanatics. This isn't a case of idiot x86ers picking on idiot PPCers. Its a case of two groups of idiots each hating the other.

I don't have those problems. I don't play monopoly online either. Video has always been a problem because of missing codecs or crappy Microsoft software.

It works fine for my purposes, although I would like a better integrated PGP/GPG plugin.
