Here's the last paragraph from the RPS review of the PC version:

Midnight can't come soon enough.

Am I going to experience some bugs during tonight's game play? Probably. Still can't freaking wait!

Me and you both. Preloaded as I type.

What Giantbomb had to say:

" The PC version... uses the exact same interface, but it actually works quite well with a mouse and keyboard. That's mainly because that four-way menu and the list of items and spells are all easily navigable with WASD, and even when you want to equip a highlighted item, you only need to click the mouse button you want to map it to, regardless of where the cursor is. The PC version seems like the clear winner here, since even if you don't like the default interface, you can be sure mods will come along to change not only that aspect of the game but every other one as well, in ways you and I haven't even thought of yet. The PC version also naturally looks by far the best and was able to tax even our fairly powerful office machine in the outdoor areas."

"On both PC and 360, Skyrim looks utterly fantastic in its broad strokes. The sheer variety and grandeur of the landscapes and interiors in the game is breathtaking when you stand back and behold them. There are some spots on the periphery that look less than fantastic up close, though, such as rocks clearly built out of very few polygons. Some of the textures are noticeably low-resolution on the console as well. I mention this mostly to allay any concerns that the game somehow looks bad, though; if you're stopping to examine single rocks or stare at wall textures filling your screen, you're missing the point of this game."

I'm not overly concerned, this isn't suppose to rival Crysis. Given the vast scale of the game I can forgive it for not looking mind blowing.

Well NZ/AUS can already play and most of them seem happy with the game?? Not sure where this negative thing is coming from.

It's coming from people with effing prejudices based on something they read and didn't even bothered to try it...like with every big games coming out since I can pee without a diaper.

actually moron it's coming from Asia and Aus/NZ who already have the game..

posting detailed screenshots to back it up.

love the so called blind ass kiss their asses fanboys..

sorry it's a 60 dollar Console port on the PC.. I loved the PC only older Elder Scrolls but ever since then they have been pushing out consolized crap.

Fallout was a mess before mods and even to an effect after..
Oblivion was a flat console game..
Fallout2 more of the same crap.

There may be alot right with Skyrim but there is also alot wrong.

Well sir here's a candy for your nerves.

I won't call you a moron or a fanboy but i'll tell you this: We're in 2011, soon 2012, where consoles are the bread and butter of developpers. What do you expect? We live in a capitalist system where every fucking shit we do is govern by money. Devs won't release a PC exclusive title because they won't make a dime with it after everything is paid for. We're no longer alone on the gaming world. Now we have the consoles which comes with good and bad hits in this industry.

What can we expect with this shit? We can expect to still have great titles developped for us, PC gamers. We still have the edge in visual qualities, we still have the edge in controls and general settings and tweakings. We have mods. We have upgradable monster PCs to up even more the visuals to our likings.

We're just no longer alone, live with it.

I think a big part of the problem, as Rhezuss points out, is that console games make huge money, and PC games don't. And this has been a trend for a while, and PC games have been on the decline. And it's a snowballing process, because as more people jump ship to consoles, a good percentage of the people that are still on the PC platform are pirating their games anyway.

I was talking on gChat with a friend yesterday morning, telling him how I finally broke down and bought MW3 on release day, the first $60 game I've bought in years. He was like, "I didn't realize that was out! Grabbing the torrent now." Followed by the expected, "If I like it, I'll buy it." Dude hasn't bought a game in years.

There aren't good PC exclusives anymore because most PC gamers are dirtbags, and most of the people willing to actually pay for good content have migrated to consoles.

Yeah sure, just because one of your friends pirates games everyone does...even if there wasn't a single pirate on the PC developers would still be focusing on console games because there is just a much larger pool of potential buyers.

fixed that for you..

spend 2000+ dollars ever year to keep my system at tip top for PC gaming and have never pirated a game.

my Steam account proves it as does my empty fun money account lol...

I find it laughable that with the high end PC technology we have now we are still ROADBLOCKED by what in comparison is an 8 bit system... those are 5 generation old procs and vid cards now..

consoles are great for kiddies but there needs to be more than PC only MMO driving the PC community..
if they were to build A+ PC ONLY games the community would come back.. WoW and SC and others have proven this..

Yep you're right about that, we need to turn the tide to our side and show that PC gaming is still the best there is.

Checking my Steam account and i'm at 232 games 😀
PC gaming still exist, it just need some love!

Yeah, it should be though, I'm in Australia and its 8:05 am 11/11/11 the game is out so i should be able to play it.

I wanna know why it was downloading the 5gb again as i already did it the i closed and then reopened steam and its downloading again ?

You shouldn't have to download anything then, should just install from the disc and then it activates through steam.

i went to were it shows what cds you have in your computer clicked on the skyrim and the thing that pops up when you insert the cd come up and had an option to play i clicked that then in steam it just says preparing to lauch and is doing nothing ?

Wasn't EPIC recently saying how console games initially bring in big bucks, but PC games continue to bring in profit years down the road..

Just think about all those 3+ year old games that go on sale on Steam each year. I'm sure they sell enormous amounts of those games. I know I've contributed to that...

I don't think console games have such an effect.. yet..

Yeah they were saying the first 2 weeks basically make or break the game. I'm sure publishers like this though, they get to see all of their profits in a couple weeks instead of it being spread out. Also since a lot of companies like to pump out sequels nowadays I beter they don't care about long term sales of their older games and focus on hyping up te next one coming out.

try deleting the clientregistry.blob file in your steam folder.

worked for me when I had this issues recently.

try removing it from steam...then with steam open, start the installer on the disc. At that point it will see it on your account and install the game from the disc then after that is done let it patch. I'd try that before going further. Good luck.

So there's no option to install from the discs at all? I've never had a steam redl a game after i've downloaded it, did you check you steam folder and see if it's in there?

its got some files (about 1gb) and its currently downloading from steam and the files are getting larger ?

I open the thing from the cd and it had uninstall re install and play options and i went reinstall and this thing come up saying "validating steam files - 100% Complete

Validating steam cache files (0 of 1)

Validating the elder scrolls v: skyrim file (1 of 1)"

?
