when will steam be coming to OSX

is their an offical release date?

I haven't seen a solid date yet, just the press release saying April. They've got one week left. So I'd guess if they are going to follow through, it will be Tuesday. I signed up for the beta last week, but never received an email 🙁

If Valve is on time, next week. If Valve is on Valve time, then it's going to depend on whether they're Half-Life 2 late or Team Fortress 2 late. That would put the delivery date between 2011 and 2020 or so.😛

It'll be available on the iPad by then, haha. Which will be able to play Crysis by that point 😀

And... Valve finds a way to be lame.

Valve announced that Steam will launch on the Mac platform this Wednesday, May 12.

On subsequent Wednesdays, additional collections of Mac titles will become available, each designed to highlight specific functionalities of Steam on the Mac.

Portal [...] will be the first of Valve's Source engine based games available on the Mac.

So Valve is only going to release 1 game a week. Going through the Source back catalog, Valve has 13 individual titles they list, which means it's going to take Valve 3 months to release everything.:|

They're releasing Portal and Torchlight this week.. I don't think it will only be one game a week. I think they'll do more. But they're focusing on each new technology that they're releasing, which means they want to have things thoroughly tested and not release everything at once. It seems smart to me.. but the impatient part of me wants it all now. 🙂

Well, it sure as shit ain't right now! Here I sit, waiting for the client to release before I head to work... NOTHIN'!

Thanks for the link.. working here. Downloading Portal now.. I also see Killing Floor, Braid, and World of Goo available in my Library.. 😀

The game will download but valve runs a check each time you run a game, if the game isn't unlocked yet it will refuse to launch.

Torchlight runs surprisingly well.. 1920x1080 with all settings high and no noticeable hiccups on a 9400m.

Well Peggle runs fine. lol I don't think my late 2005 macbook pro (radeon x1600) will be able to handle much. Only a few games that are steamplay enabled are on my list such as Torchlight, Osmos and the Peggle games. No source games yet other than Portal.

So far I've been impressed with it. No errors and performance has been great on the 9400m. Much better than I expected.

GAH! I am at work, and won't be home until after midnight EDT! Oh well, at least I know that I have something new(ish) waiting for me at home.

I can't portal to download, says servers busy, then just says download starting but never does anything.

Also moving the steam window around seems very glitchy, not smooth like it should be.

Finally got stupid thing to download.
