When will 9/11 fade in emotion like Dec 7?

Out of Pearl Harbor we got WWII.

Out of 9/11 we got Iraq.

The biggest problem with 9/11 is our emotions and hearts were used as capital for one of the dumbest things our government has done in living memory.

It did for me long ago. Some people get off on phony patriotism and crocodile tears though, so I'm sure it will be around for a long time.

Unless it make it a commercial festival like Valentines day or something, it will fade away. In 10 15 years the young generation will say, oh well Hitler downed two buildings, bad Hitler.

Knowing someone that died on one of those planes and the large number of people that witnessed and were affected by it, not for a long time.

well considering that you have people nearing/in college age who have no memory of it then i'd say it's history now bar for the old

It already has. Today I only saw 1 news article on Yahoo news about 9/11, and it talked about how over 50% of Americans feel less safe after 9/11 than they did before.

Talk about media brain washing.

it will fade away when the people who were directly affected by it fade/die

Having seen it happen in real time on TV in highschool, I don't think ever. I definitely owe it to our english teacher though who was like no, this is way more important we're turning on the TV. The whole school was abuzz with everyone who knew anything contributing what they knew. I had hopped on Starcraft Broodwar that night actually, and the chat rooms were... interesting. There was like 250,000-300,000 online talking about it.

Based on today's online & IRL responses, this is the first year where I would say that it feels like a memory now. I've literally been the only person to bring it up at work all day.

It's weird to think that the kids born in 2001 are teenagers today...

Yea, IRL I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to watch it on TV, etc.

Current 8th graders were probably born in 2001, there may be very few High Schoolers that have any actual memory of 9/11/01.

I still watch parts of Pearl Harbor the movie a couple times a month, the one with Ben Affleck. It's mostly the scenes of the attack on the harbor. So it's on my mind sometimes over the years. And my dad was in the US Marines and fought in WW2 in the Solomon Islands and Okinawa. And right now I'm watching a 9/11 video special on the History Channel. And later today I'll watch more about 9/11 on CNN, FoxNews, Discovery and maybe others. And I watch them a few times a year during the years since 9/11.

"do not tell me it can't be done"-FDR

Wow, while looking for that clip, it appears there might be as many Pearl Harbor conspiracies as 9/11

It will become a *permanent* mile marker in time, much like the JFK shooting, the Challenger explosion, etc.

I was in the 5th grade when it happened but being in Cali it has sort of faded away. However, the aftermath (general fear and suspicion) still sticks in my mind.

It really is surreal though when I visited New York and ground zero for the first time. You really understand the magnitude of the skyscrapers. I couldn't even imagine what it would have been like to be there that day. In So Cal you really don't have a mental image of what buildings are like in Manhattan.

The day America decided to play cowboy in the Middle East.

Seeing as we're still over there, cleaning up our mess, we've got a long ways to go.

Yep I didn't realize it was 9/11 until someone brought it up today. I would have realized it right away if I looked at the date, but I didn't look at my calendar because I'm still pretending its summer.

It's crazy. My niece posted something up on Instagram saying even though she wasn't born yet to remember. That thought didn't even cross my mind that she wasn't alive yet.

Define "fade in emotion". 12/7 every year still gets plenty of movies and documentaries all day about Pearl Harbor. It's a major historical milestone, and so 9/11 will be for generations to come.

That said, the overly dramatic "I was there" interviews, yearly media saturation, etc... does finally seem to be abating.
