When waiting in a line or in an elevator have you ever had someone talk to you and say something that was stupid or that you just couldn't believe they actually said?

I just got back from the store, and I had a "Cookies and Cream" Hershey's bar. Here's the conversation the guy in front of me and I had.

Me: Hello
Him: Hello
(He looks down and sees the candy bar)
Him: Do you know why we make white chocolate?
Me: Because it tastes good?
Him: No. So colored kids can get messy when eating chocolate.
(I didn't laugh and pretty much looked disgusted by what he said)
Him: I have a kid in school. He came home with that joke.
Me: Oh! Kids!!

I couldn't think of anything else to say. I couldn't believe he said something like that. I know there are people here who probably think that's funny and wouldn't be bothered by it, but I was offended and bothered by it. Now it could be true that his child came up with it or told him the joke, but I just feel he said that because I looked disgusted by what he said.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

I hear the ole nudge nudge wink wink racist stuff all the time since people assume that since I am white I will naturally agree with their viewpoint. Little do they know I would love to punch them in the face but I pretty much ignore it or give my stance on the subject to let them know I do not share their narrow minded bias.

Its your fault for starting the conversation by saying Hello. You made him nervous and he felt like he had to say something in return.

You're not supposed to talk in elevators. It's just like being at the urinal...stare straight ahead and be quiet.

He did say something before that. He said "Hello". That's all he had to say.

kind of funny.
that's the kind of joke i would only tell to my good friends who are black. Telling it to a stranger is pretty damn racist. I would have punched that guy in the face.

Maybe he thought you were cute and wanted to see if you would laugh at his joke.

You should have looked back at him, dead-panned, and said "Well, I guess your kid is a racist douchebag." :D

Are you really that sensitive that something like that offends you?

I had a black guy tell me that my hair looks like a golden retriever's. I thought it was funny as sh!t, lol

I guess if I was a pansy-ass pseudo-man I would have got offended and cried racism, but it was funny and he had a point.

It seems as if everyone nowadays wants to be the first one to pull the "insensitivity" card. I find them limp-wristed and weak.

Doubtful, but maybe. He could have come up with something better to say.

Somehow I doubt that.

I usually respond with "Smello." when someone says hello to me, which tends to kill the conversation before it starts.
